Had a quick check of my Hotspur artist records and below is a list of the serial strips that Neville Wilson drew for New Hotspur/Hotspur in the period 1960-1966

The Swords of the Seven Hundred (began in No 38 (9/7/60) his first work for Thomsons)
Musgrave of the Moors
Mick and Mack - the Battersea Battlers
Ninety Minute Nelson
Famous Cavalry Charges (individually titled)
Battling Pete of the Pit Ponies
The Crimson Comet
Lost Planes Found
The Secret Flyer
The Black Horses of Vengeance
Snip - New Forest Pony
Kashgar
Steelfist

He also drew a strip in the first revived Hotspur Book for 1966 telling the story of 'King Arthur' and was also responsible for a number of completes in the weekly paper in the above period too, including the third Wild West cover strip to be published in No 142 'Red Phantoms of the Forest'.
I always liked his work very much.

Seriously though, thanks so much for that. I love it when all the various elements of somebody's career finally come together like pieces in a jigsaw. Wilson certainly looks like an eminently suitable candidate for early inclusion in Ashford and Wright's Great British Comic Artists series. (One thing though: shouldn't it be 'Nine Minute Nelson' - or has he just got slow in his old age? )

Well it did and it didn't DF. It actually came from another Hotspur strip titled 'The War Gong of Kashgar' featuring the Wolf of Kabul.
As to the rest of Neville Wilson's early career you can add the following, all from AP/Fleetway's Lion comic, in chronological order
Alrik the Archer 219-228 began Apr 1956

Captain Condor (as already mentioned by Phil)

Spot the Clue with Bruce Kent (this actually began in 1957 but NW didn't take it over until Jan 1960 and then drew it most weeks until it ended in May 1964) (Pat Nicolle did the strip now and then)

A GURU IS BORN. For the benefit of all comicsukers who may like to believe that the world starts and ends with The Hotspur (picture version), these uploads will serve to illustrate the contrary view. The first is from The Wizard 551 (Jun. 24 1933) and the second is from The Wizard 1868 (Dec. 2 1961). In the latter case, Kashgar really came in with some style, making the cover in colour, which is my final illustration. Ray's dithering uncertainty about the source of his username, 'Well it did and it didn't', does give all of us the opportunity, if we so wish, to vote on which qualities that we can sense in the two heroes, in their original lives, have survived the passing of the years, and best describe His Guruness as we know him now.

Just a slip of the pen, I'm sure. It could be understandable even so because The Ninety-Minute Nelsons is a much more powerful and memorable story than Nine-Minute Nelson. Ray knows this serial from its first appearance in The Wizard in 1941 as well as from the repeat in The Hornet in 1971. The uploads appear in that order.

Sorry about that. A while ago I had a dodgey message on the Blog and changed the settings so I could moderate the replies. Jiggled with it again so it should be open to non-registered people too. Peoples messages won't show up until I've done a Big Brother and had a dekko at them though.

Works for me too, although I didn't actually click on Post Comment (I only previewed to see if it would work). Very strange. Try a different account type (there's a list of half a dozen you can use) or just post anonymously and add your name to your message.

Hey Peter.

I thought that removing the text would be an interesting experiment. It kinda pushed my Photoshop skills to the limit, but I might try it again in the future.

Hopefully people are enjoying the stuff I'm putting up on the Blog? Initially, the plan was that I'd write more for each piece, but seeing as I do the Blog late at night I find myself lacking the inspiration to write. I've noticed that I say, 'nice' and 'cool' a lot.... Ahem.
