Don't forget that The Dalek Book used that lettering in 1964, on the logo and in the strips, several months prior to the launch of TV21. Although as it had the same creative team as the TV21 strip (Terry Nation, David Whittaker and Richard Jennings) it's possible they used the same letterer too. Or could it perhaps have been designed by someone at the BBC? (Or a designer at Panther Books, who published the annual?)



That style of logo was also used on Dalek Sweet Cigarettes.



Whoever came up with it, it seems to have been adopted as the official lettering style for the Daleks and is now used on the merchandise as well as the comics.

Would the cover of that 1964 book be the first instance of Daleks flying? People often neglect the importance of good lettering, something I'm going to put more consideration into for my future project

I don't think they flew on screen until the 1980s, and Doctor Who only started in 1963, so I think it must be, yes.

Don't know about anybody else but I have never accepted Davros as a part of the Dalek continuity. They should stick with the Red, Black and Gold Daleks as being the leaders and liuetenants. Davros seemed to turn up in the 1980s from nowhere. Correct me if i'm wrong of course but he never appeared in TV21. What happened to Zeg?

Davros's debut was actually in 1975's Genesis of the Daleks.

Yes as soon as i wrote 1980s i thought it would be 1970s. Sorry about spelling of Lieutenant. How do you spell it? The Daleks are a style icon in the same way as the Routemaster Bus. Probably the best designed aliens in Sci Fi history. Wonder what happened to the Mechanoids? New doctor looks like the worst ever, geeky streak of pee. Looks awful.

Blown apart eventually IIRC. I wonder if Dalek Sec from the recent series was influenced by Dalek Zeg? Bit of a coincidence the names sound so similar.

Don't worry about the word 'Lieutenant' we're not pedantic.
