Good luck to Euan. He did a fine job both as an editor and as the media "face" of The Beano for decades. The task of an editor can be a subtle one, as far as the readers are aware. We immediately notice art changes for example but the editorial guidance to a comic is often under the radar. It's fascinating to see how editors put their own stamp on a comic and Euan guided The Beano through some difficult periods in comic history when lesser titles fell by the wayside.

I liked Euan a lot as editor..my era the mid 80's..and onwards..
He brought us Baby-Face...and my favourite Calamity James!!

Would I be right in worrying that this spells the end of calamity james adventures? I know alan digby isn't fond of james who is still hanging on in beanoMAX which he has just taken over from? Wait and see I suppose

Depends if Alan takes over permanently or not I suppose.

Euan will certainly be a miss. Not only a top notch editor but also someone who was more than happy to try and answer a few questions when they arose concerning the publications with which he was involved. A long and happy retirement to him.

I think the word "sacked" should most definitely be dropped because he wasn't sacked!

THOMSON reputedly made a 67 million quid profit this last year [though in real tems this is likely a good bit down from the days when a million quid really was a lot of loot] and selling 200 million publications a year.......this is a quote from a news report, according to this they still seem to be performing pretty well, considering we are in a recession.

Thats a pretty healthy profit really - I thought about 80% plus of DCTs output was pretty much local / regional Scottish newspapers (and the Sunday Post - a Scottish national with a smaller UK circulation) whicj I know are very popular up here and read throughout Scotland - sound like theyre doing well to me.

Surely with that much profit they could afford to publish a new adventrue comic

Please, Alan Digby, DON'T DROP CALAMITY JAMES!!! I don't even mind reprints here, just as long as he continues.

Good to hear that BeanoMax can continue, though I wonder whether Max will change, although I'm not a regular reader, (or the Beano itself as a result, but that's unlikely). Hopefully working on both comics won't affect the standards of the comics.

Euan Kerr did a great job for years, best wishes to him.

Just to keep the record straight (though I'm tempted to make up an exciting and intriguing reason for my departure) - I am going by my own choice and didn't negotiate any special deal. After 40 years in the business and with my health and sanity almost in tact, the lure of the golf course was too much!. I've loved my time in comics and hope to do some part-time writing. Thanks to everyone for their kind comments. I will, of course, continue to tune in to Comics UK. Good luck to Alan who will be Commander in Chief of both Beano and BeanoMAX.

Ok admin, NOW can you change the title of this thread? There's enough daft rumours in fandom as it is so now that a notification from the person involved completely crushes the tale perhaps it can be corrected before it gets out of hand?
