I noticed something else in this issue... a Dandy Xtreme advert shows that Dennis and Gnasher are in the latest issue!?! Must be to advertise the DVD I guess. I wonder if it will confuse people when they see that Xtreme cover in the shops?

Biffo's supposed to be a zookeeper, how the heck can a tiddler fish like that scare him? I guess Chipi Biffo doesn't have the same personality as the proper one.

Next week loses Fred for the week, and is a Nigel Parkinson special. Well, eleven pages plus the cover, but to say more will just spoil it for the non-subscribers.

I believe that is Tom back on Fred for the foreseeable future.

Prior to the current issue, Tom's contributed nothing to the comics for several weeks (apart from Calamity James, but that's a reprint), is that because he was building up a Fred's Bed stockpile, I wonder? Anyway, a change of artist for Fred explains why Dave Sutherland got a speech caption credit this week. Kind of a thank you to him for his work on the strip these last few months.

I'd guessed that next week's issue would have a feature 8 page strip, as they usually do when the cover price is £2.25 with multiple gifts, rather than the normal £1.35 with one or no gift. They should advertise the content as well as the gift though, IMHO (they usually only mention the content the day before it comes out, on the website), as these longer strips should be a selling point.

I agree with you. I enjoyed Dave Sutherland's take of Fred's Bed but equally I'm pleased if Tom Paterson is drawing it regularly again. I noticed the reference to DS last week as well but didn't really think about it at the time.

Interestingly, Tom seems to have changed the style of the strip a bit again, now it's somewhere between the original style in the Beezer and Topper, and Hunt Emerson's version.

the punchline was a bit twee..

I'm interested as I've just done blog posts on Beano comic page adverts recently..interesting it is still being used today..

Those of you who work for/have worked for Thomson will know that you can sometimes get your mitts on copies of BEANO at least one month in advance of the shops: show one of these copies to a mate if you ever get the opportunity: it really impresses folks!

Looks like Laura Howell to me. Not 100% certain though, the strip was unsigned.
