Definitely, I can see Pa Bear's arm next to Minnie.

Nope, definitely Steve Bright:

The Dandy one does look like NP though.

The price is bumped up, though, by the pointless free CD of panto songs (who on earth would want this?) and set of masks. Surely buyers of this series just want the vintage comic material?

That Panto time cover looks quite good but there is one thing that looks a bit odd to me is that as Desperate Dan bends over there is a rip and his trousers have ripped but Gnasher is running past him and the lines of Gnasher's running look like he is running out of Desperate Dan's now ripped trousers.

Last years free gifts in the celebrate Dennis the menace book wasnt that bad with it having the reprint of the Beano with the first Dennis strip but the DVD hasn't been in the Blu-ray player it's still in the plastic wallet inside the front cover. But the gifts if you can call them that are in the panto book are just cheap tat that will more than likely end up in the bin.

Agreed. Cartoon episodes on DVD and a facsimile comic are far better than a panto songs CD (no idea what they mean by that, since pantos aren't usually musicals) and some pointless masks the likes of which you'd expect as a covermount gift with BeanoMAX. They should've done a facsimile Dandy and a DVD containing either more Dennis and Gnasher or Bananaman episodes.

To be honest, I should have remembered that Steve told me that he drew it (doh!) Jon, you can blame MMi if you don't like the lettering ;)

Just had another thought. Since annuals always lag a couple of years behind comics, does this mean the 2014 annual will have the 'new' old-fashioned masthead on the cover?

You mean the Beano one? Yeah, probably. 2000 was the first one to use the arched logo introduced in 1998.

The arched masthead first appeared on the Beano comic number 1 back in July 1938 it is also on the first (1940) Beano book.

That was a different logo though. 1998 was the first time the 1970 logo appeared in arched form on the weekly comic (although the 1997 annual uses a different arched version). By "new old-fashioned", Swirly meant the straightened out one that debuted this year (2012) which was based on the design used in various forms from 1970 to 1998, and since he was talking about the 2014 annual, the time gap is the same as the 1998/2000 one.

Ah I see its a bit like the Beano masthead when I got it when I was a kid back in the 80s only difference is the word "THE" is inside the B in Beano instead of it it being above it my personal fave is the the black and yellow version used in the 60s and early 70s
