Well, I take your point that it might be a good idea to check first, but I was thinking abut titles like Marney the Fox which was originally published for that sort of age range. The age range at their school goes up to 11 I think. I have given one or two Phoenix comics collections before now so I know they’re not opposed to the very idea of comics if that’s what you have in the back of your mind?

they are only £4.99 each at forbidden planet that's how i was able to finish them but i know i will end up buying the rebellion versions too so may actually read those. lol

Hopefully the school would welcome any of the books as all the stories were published for children originally. Marney is perhaps the best suited though, as you said. Wonderful book.

Looking at the PDF of volume 1 of the Rebellion's Charley's War, it covers the same episodes as the first Titan omnibus edition (which was thicker than the hardbacks). Both books also feature Pat Mills' notes in the back. The differences being that the Titan books reprinted any colour pages in greyscale, but the Rebellion ones reprint them in colour as intended. There's also a full colour covers gallery, of Battle covers that Charley appeared on. In total, the Rebellion book has 320 pages, so not bad for £20.

yeah I am wondering what they will do with Jonny Red I am contemplating getting the other Titan volumes as they are quite handsomely done, (more so than Titans Charleys war) but I dont want them to stop reprinting halfway in.

As far as I know, Titan won't be doing any more Battle reprints now that Rebellion have the rights.

Replying to myself (and to wilsia), it's just occurred to me that Titan might still have time on their licence to reprint Action material (as they've just done Hook Jaw), which may be why Rebellion aren't doing anything from that comic this year.

In that case I will just buy the Garth Ennis new story for now.

I see that the first two Charley's War books are only £16.88 each on pre-order via Amazon. Free postage too.

The three books cover all the WW1 stories. I'm not sure if there's enough demand for the WW2 stories which had a different writer and didn't conclude properly.

A pity as I quite liked it. I agree that it did seem to end suddenly before going back the beginning in the form of a recap. As if it was decided that WW2 story was not working out (or to save money) and so went to reprinting the older stories instead.

As I recall it was because Joe wasn't well so the reprints were intended as a temporary thing while he recovered. Sadly his health worsened and he passed away. To their credit, Fleetway couldn't imagine anyone replacing him so the series remained a reprint.

I'd love to see Pat Mills rewriting the WW2 section the way he originally intended. It wouldn't be the same without Joe but I'm sure one of Rebellion's 2000AD artists could do a decent job.

I'm sorry to hear that. A very sad reason for a series to end.
