I won't rattle on about this further beyond this reply, Chris, unless I have a thought of cosmic significance (which is very possible), but he wouldn't win. The description would be taken as self-contained. Firstly, the majority of sellers on Ebay won't be using those guides so it won't be considered a norm. Also, the seller hasn't alluded to which - or any - guide he's using and there are several, which will differ in their gradings, anyway. The fact that there are websites or self-appointed experts has about as much legal validity as saying "look, it says so on Wikipedia!"

Can you imagine? "Yes, m'lud, I did put good condition, but any buyer of old comics should know that good condition actually means very bad condition ... look, there's this book. Well, no, you can only get it in specialist comic shops in the big cities ..."

But really a good seller shouldn't try to obfuscate at all. I think the worst thing sellers can do is 'grade up' in their descriptions. I find they're the ones you don't go back to. Clarity is so important in these matters.

Hadn't noticed you were in Egypt! Have you managed to find any old Egyptian Leopard from Lime Street comics in any of the markets there? Well, they *might* have existed ...

I could argue the point and be as convinced I'm right as you are of your opinion, so I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. No old Busters here (in fact little of any Fleetway) but Commandos, bronze age Marvels, various Beanos, 2000ADs and Classics from the Comics etc.

BUT I've got something I've been meaning to scan in for a while now - last year, DCT put out a new series of Commando over in Egypt but IN ARABIC! I bought number one and there's maybe been about 25. Very strange to see them in this format. Reprints of the UK version in exactly the same format, bar the language. I would be surprised if there are many Arabs particularly interested in them. I know it was a big part of the war but it was more something the Arabs were subject to, rather than willing participants.

If anyone wants any, let me know.

That's a VFN selection of characters! :D

And to think my wife laughed at Space 1999. What about Survivors 1979!

Black Sapper was great. I'll need to rebuy that Red Dagger comic if I ever find it.

I have the 16th May 1959 story of The Survivors 1979..thats the earliest one I got in the pile..
the week before which I don't have or two weeks before must have been the start..
Can anyone please show the origin of this Ken Hunter story on the forum...could be put under the jellymen post..its quite different as it is about a small band of people coming together after a devastating meteor attack on the earth wiping out nearly everyone...
Love the idea of it...and lovely work by Ken..

Sorry Peter, I've got the episode for 9th May but there aren't any meteors in that - just Jack and Pat falling off a motor scooter and meeting Tiffy! Presumably the Great Disaster (a term that is now mainly associated with Jack Kirby) was shown in the first episode, but I don't have that either :(. It is a nice series though. I like the way in which fallen meteors tend to litter the landscape looking strangely like giant 'Iron Eaters', and it's curious how the group member Butch might almost be mistaken for Tom Thug's big brother - even though this was written years before anyone had even heard of 'skinheads'. Incidentally, do you have the final installment? I never did find out how the story ended.

I also like Oh Calamity alot..by The Smasher artist..

The 1960 Beezer Book is one of my all time fave annuals. Published slightly before a time when I could read I first actually read it when the girl who lived next door, who was three years older than me, bravely loaned me her copy when I was ill in bed with chicken pox. And Paddy Brennan's 'Wooden Horse of Troy' is still one of my most indelible childhood memories.

I'm still trying to get over getting the 1969 Victor Summer Special as I thought that it was going to take me years to get that little number. Now all I need is the 1967 one to have a full run of specials from 1967 to 1986. My post 86 collection is very spotty, so I just need to keep watching. Unless any of you kind souls have doubles you wish to sell....
