No. Look at that dog's "hair". It does resemble Pop. Should've had a black patch under the nose (like a mustache).

That Octo Murs gag is clever. An expy for Olly Murs - and the character shown is also called Olly! Didn't spot it the first time, but that's a good one. Of course, younger readers probably won't get the Desert Island Dick reference...

The Desert Island Dick reference, I remember reading a brilliant Bash Street Kids Adventures (I miss that comic strip...) by Kev F Sutherland, I think it was called Scary Story. The part with Dick saying his name and them all laughing was so funny! I was in stitches!

Also Stu said it was a cameo by Pop, very clever if I'm honest, never spotted that!

They did Where's Crouchy a while back, it was the first time I'd seen Mark Bennington's artwork in ages!

I'm pointing out the obvious I know but out of the last 7 issues Harry Hill has only featured on the cover the once. Where as the first 19 issues of the relaunch 17 of them had HH.

My obvious first thought it that Bananaman and Desperate Dan sell more issues than HH. Especially since TV Burp is off the screens at the moment.

I reckon the Dandy's seen common sense and is losing the hideous over-reliance on celebrity appearances which propped up so many of the early issues. Harry Hill and Justin Beaver have developed into good, well-rounded comic strips in their own right, but I must say I wasn't sorry to see the back of "What's in Cheryl's Hair Today?". I wish Little D-List would bog off, too.

Unfortunately, it seems they've all jumped ship to Dennis the Menace. The past few weeks have given us Barack Obama, Will and Kate, and Wossname and That Woman from Countdown in quick succession.

(For the benefit of those not bright enough to spot an opinion when they read it, the above should be considered my subjective point of view.)

I think the Beano is going through a period of transition right now - I remember shortly after Alan became editor mid-way through 2006 I felt that the comic didn't feel the same. There seemed to be quite a few filler pages around that time too. However, the quality started to improve and by the summer of 2007 it was as good as I can remember it being since early 2004 (which I regard as a very good time for the Beano as there seemed to be loads of comic content, and nearly all of the strips were funny and well drawn around that time).

The cover sure made me smile this week..

The next time a newspaper runs a "Desperate Dan can't even eat cow pies now" tale we should e-mail them that cover.

Of course, there was already a 2007 cover we could quote in such cases - the last pre-Xtreme Dandy also had Dan eating a cow pie on the cover.

Still, this week's cover is good.

The Dandy covers have suddenly started becoming quite impressive attention grabbers, after that long run of rather samey covers. Though I did wonder how familiar kids today would be with totem poles, I thought last week's Dandy cover was probably the best yet and what the covers should aim for: a good single panel visual gag with art that really stands out. These are really adding to the comic.

Beano covers have been good the last couple of issues or so, too.
