I'm glad Super School is back (hopefully to stay!) but sad to say Freddie Fear gone despite it being reprints as I love Freddie Fear. I hope they both appear and are both brand new rather than reprints.

One question that's on my mind at the moment is what if the Beano run out of Number 13 and The Germs reprints and they prove to be popular? Obviously a new artist will have to take them on, but who do you think it would be?

I reckon Barrie Appleby will draw Number 13 but if someone had to draw it I'd rather have Nigel Parkinson any day! The Germs will most likely be drawn by Dave Sutherland meaning he'll stop drawing Fred's Bed and pass it on to Nigel or Laura perhaps?

Definitely good to see Super School back, and not at the expense of anything else either (barring the Beano's most blatent reprint ever). I wish it hadn't brought its colouring clangers back with it, though... just look at the first and penultimate panels to see what I mean. After all the progress the Beano's made in the last year, that's really disappointing.

Did anyone else recognise this week's Bash Street Kids strip? It definitely rang quite a few bells for me, not just in the storyline but even in the dialogue (such as "I don't know! Did you ever try to teach them trigonometry?"). Recycled script or reprint? Does anyone know where and when it was first printed?

If it's a recycled script, it might have been redrawn. Cuthbert using a peashooter is very out of character. Can't remember that happening before.

I doubt thats gonna happen both strips lasted for at least ten years in their original forms so they are not gonna run out of material for at least a decade and by then who knows?

I was happy to see Super School make a return this week and I'm glad it's back in the comic again. In this week's issue, I also really liked the Billy Whizz, Meebo and Zuky, Pup Parade and Roger stories.

I personally don't mind Super School replacing Freddie Fear reprints. I would like to see more new Freddie Fear strips, but I felt that reprinting the older ones was odd, not because I can remember them first time around (I've been reading the Beano for a long time and I'm above its intended age range), but because of the change of style in the meantime. If Freddie doesn't come back, I'd actually quite like Dave Eastbury to have a go at another strip, maybe an all-new one, as I personally don't think his artwork gets the recognition it deserves.

I doubt Number 13 or The Germs will switch to new stories any time soon. The only story the Beano has reprinted the full run of in recent years was Fred's Bed, bar the final Beezer and Topper strip, so I'd be surprised if the whole back catalogue of strips was used. If they wanted a new artist for The Germs other than David Sutherland, I'm sure Nigel Parkinson could do it as he did draw three strips around 2004 or so.

Just dropped by to say thanks all for the kind words about Super School. Pleased to hear it's well received. I'm not sure when it'll be back on a regular basis though. Hope to receive new scripts soon.

This has been identified as a recycled Winker Watson script from the 2009 Dandy Annual.

Thanks Gilly. They have one strip in stock so that should be used soon hopefully, and I've just received another script that I'll be drawing next week so more Super School to come!

Good to see D.C. Thomson living up to their reputation for being cutting edge and contemporary with a parody of Jaws on this week's cover.

I like that cover. Looks less cluttered without the This Week in Beanotown bit. And Jaws isn't some obscure B-movie, kids will know of it, so I don't see how the joke is dated.

I agree about the covers, I prefer ones that have a clear main image rather than being cluttered. I agree about the Jaws joke as well, I'm sure plenty of kids will get that one.

Well, it's parodying the film poster for one of the big films of 1975.

Most of its readers will have been born around 2003!
