I think it's a bit like that episode of Babylon 5 where everyone who looks at Kosh sees a figure from their personal faith.

Too many celebs? It depends on the context. If it's just a feature page talking about the X Factor or something, then yeah, it doesn't belong. But making it into a cartoon strip like they did with Little Simon, and obviously the fully endorsed Harry Hill strip? That's not overdoing it, that's fine. I don't have any reason to think that either Beano or Dandy will disappear any time soon. I said when this was first announced that this was a last ditch relaunch for The Dandy... so far it looks as if it's worked - we'll know for sure when we get the next circulation figures.

Flippin' adults its alright for them to have celebs in their adult papers but as soon as theres celebs in the kids papers they dont like it!

It's good the programme and similar reports have made listeners aware of the relaunch but I wish they'd get behind it a bit more. The country's in recession and when something comes along to fight against it they show an unenthusiastic reluctance because it's not exactly as it was 40 years ago.

If people want to read about pop stars and sports players, there are magazines devoted to that without them being in the comics. Comics are meant to be entertainment, not news (showbiz or otherwise). Dandy has realised that they were using celebrities in the wrong way. By making fun of them in comic strips they stand out from the crowd in a way that just running features about the latest TV shows or movies like they did as Xtreme never will.

And besides Film Fun or Radio Fun (i forget which one came first) did it decades ago!

Film came before radio, as did the comics, and both comics were beaten to the celebrity aspect by Dan Leno's Comic Journal in 1898.

Film Fun came first (1920)- with all the silent movie stars! Radio Fun, a mere latecomer in 1938! TV fun- forget it!

i must just say the response here to the Dandy relaunch has been so wonderful, it shows that DCT and the quite lovely editorial staff on the Dandy have made The Right Decision in bringing comics back. Not only that, but they:ve actively searched out new talent and brought it into the fold with pros, which is the best way to keep a comic vibrant and working. Now we:ve all seen what each other is doing, it keeps us upping our own game. Because with something this good, we all want it to be a success.

Congrats to everyone at the Dandy and all the artists involved. it even got me reviled by the Daily Star for how i draw Desperate Dan, even though i:ve been doing it for over three years already. I can:t tell you how chuffed that made me.

I wish it well. I don't know how much it differs from `Dandy Extreme` of which I read one and i'm afraid I wasn't impressed. Mind you, i'm no example of their target audience!!

If the new comic goes for less `Snot` based humour (as I term it) then I certainly wish it all sucess!

If the issue of Xtreme you read has Dudley Watkins Dan instead of Jamie's, then it has almost nothing in common with the new Dandy at all. Here's a list of what the final issue of Xtreme has in common with the new look comic:

• The name "Dandy"
• Desperate Dan drawn by Jamie Smart
• Bogies drawn by Nigel Auchterlounie
• Bananaman (but he changed artist)
• Stories drawn by Nigel Parkinson and Wayne Thompson - however, both artists switched to different characters.

That's it. The rest of the comic is made up of 18 all new stories, plus a single line strip (one of a dozen, although some characters are in more than one) featuring the return of Korky the Cat, whose appearances have been sporadic at best for the last six years.

My local Smiths had 28 copies on Wednesday. Today it has 18. Not bad considering staff had recently put two copies of BeanoMAX in front of it and the special Dandy display card had been shoved out of sight. (I put The Dandy back at the front and the display card in position where Thomsons had paid for it to be displayed.)

My local Sainsburys has just one copy left! (No idea how many they had originally but the 'Recommended Reads' display it was in looked like it'd take at least ten.)

If The Dandy can improve its fortunes that well in this town, where comics are usually very poor sellers and hardly shift from one day to the next, then hopefully it'll do even better in the cities.

My only hope is that next week retailers order copies based on sales, and don't slip back to just ordering one or two copies as before.
