Only Fools and Horses episode entitled The Russians Are Coming (first broadcast 13 October 1981) - I think that's a Dandy at bottom left.

I took possession of my mum's no longer needed VHS player today as I have hundreds of tapes I want to go through before I junk them - I'm going to get one of those converter leads so I can copy anything I want to keep onto my laptop and then onto disc. Have already found a 9 O'clock News item on the Dandy's 50th birthday which showed Ken Harrison drawing Desperate Dan, also Michael Aspel interviewing Clint Eastwood. But I also caught an advert for Toppas (shredded wheat minis with sugar topping) and the husband was reading the Beano - it was priced 22p so anyone know the year? I also have some 60s Hannah Barbera videos like Pixie & Dixie and Snagglepuss I want to copy.

The 22p Beano would be from 1988 or 1989.

@ stevezodiac Great to hear you've got some footage from the Dandy's 50th birthday.

Tell me, do you know if any of the vhs tapes contain children's programming (early-late 90's) or is it just the 80's?
If they do, let me know, and I'll be interested in taking them off your hands. If not, then I wouldn't mind taking the Dandy and Beano tapes off you, if you would be willing to let them go. I would be willing to pay

I don't remember taping any 80s or 90s children's shows as I preferred 60s stuff. Most of the recordings are feature films and 60s tv shows plus some music videos. I did record Small Wonder which was a US sitcom about a couple who had a robot daughter. As I said I will attempt to transfer the vhs to dvd so can make as many copies as I like. Another interesting thing is the adverts - I saw one yesterday where Danny Baker was doing the DAZ doorstep challenge. I have a fondness for Danny as he grew up down the road from me and was a friend of my mates - also he supports Millwall.

IIIII used to have a few `Viz` comics and they really had it in for Danny Baker! Wasn't sure why- maybe it was a North/South thing?

@ alanultron5 yeah, they used to really have it in with long-chinned Jimmy Hill as well (still do to be honest), and other celebrities and famous faces.. too many to mention!

Ah, the great world of Viz! I recall a conversation I had with Jim Whittaker, the editor of Poot, there were many "adult-based comics like Viz and Poot" like Smut, Oink (okay, that was a kid's comic), and several others! Let us move slightly from the

convo which I kinda started.. well, defo started, one item of interest was a Only Fools and Horses episode I watched the other day on BBC 1, and Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) had, yep you guessed it, a comic.. but it was a IPC comic. I knew because of the pages colours, whereas DC Thomson weren't colour (only 4 pages) til 1987/1988. In the case of The Beezer and Topper, 1990. Now I can't remember what the episode was called, however it contained Del Boy and Uncle Albert trying to get Rodney a date for a disco! Hilarious!

I think that episode sounds like "Watching the Girls Go By" where Rodney has a bet about his girlfriend and so Del Boy sets him up with someone (who turns out to be a stripper with a snake).
I'll check the episode out later, see if i can get screenshots

I was watching a teaser for an upcoming Doctor Who episode called The God Complex when Look-In and the top bit of Jackie rolled into view. There was a 3rd comic/magazine but I have no idea what it was.

Not a comic; a women's mag like Woman's Own, maybe?

11 months ago to be exact. But this probably wasn't the right thread to mention that, it's nothing to do with TV.

That other magazine is The Isle of Arran Shoemaker's Monthly.
