What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

Anybody who steals anything from the British Library, or from any other copyright library for that matter, deserves to go to jail for a decade, every minute of that decade to be served. Some may say It was only a book for heaven's sake, but my view is that it doesn't matter whether it was one book or a suitcase full, the thief deserves the sentence because he stole from the nation, in other words, from US.

i didn't buy Cor!! issue one with free sachet of powdered drink. I bid over £300 and was left way behind. The final winning bid was £659. I am gobsmacked. Is that the highest bid for a 1970's comic with free gift? I've seen a pristine copy of 2000 ad with free gift go for £500, but this... I'm lost for words.

Would it not be a good idea for collectors to make lists of the highest prices obtained by sellers for their rare comics? They would then have to make every effort to be in a position to put in a bid of about 50% more than that, with a reasonable expectation of winning the item. There is always a going rate, and inevitably that is rising, number ones perhaps more quickly than any others, and what this means for genuine collectors and completists is that they must start now to save up for that moment when the next copy of their sought-after item is advertised on eBay. Well, that or learn to do without, and to stop complaining! We don't all have the right to have everything we want.

There are 700 Dandy and Beano comics that got half inched alongside the annuals too these where complete year bound volumes and are of "high value" DCT said at the time they couldn't really help in replacing them with the originals but they have the material to produce copies for them and yep whoever did this stole from the public and should be punished accordingly

but phoenix, you can place 100% bid more than the last bid for your fav. or most sought after issue, but there's always someone who is prepared to blow all logic out of the water and, with an infinite purse, stick two fingers up at your bid. I'm not complaining... really: I have paid over the odds for a certain comic because I really wanted it. Obviously, I didn't want Cor!! no. 1 with its free gift as much as previous comics because... well, the eventual price put me off. No matter a comic enthusiast, I can't afford to shell out £659. £300, yes, but not £659. It's relative - a richer man might have pushed the price further. A poorer man might have thought: ##### and then some. If I were a richer man, the eventual price may have hit £800 or more. But I'm not. That's why i'll never have a Beano issue number one with or without free gift. But I'm not complaining... I'm just wistfully envious.

It's all relative. If they can easily afford it I don't blame anyone for splashing out hundreds and hundreds of pounds on something they really want. Personally, though, I don't think I've ever spent more than £20 on a single British comic. Of course that doesn't stop me from dreaming I'll pick up a box full of early Dandys and Beanos for a fiver every time I walk round a car boot sale!

Every couple of weeks I pick up the latest Marvel Legends and tell myself "when two of the stories get to part one I'll start buying it again" the latest issue has two part ones but I didn't buy it. What puts me off is the modern style painted artwork. I suppose I'm old fashioned but I want to see line drawn artwork with borders "just like in the good old days". Am I stuck in the past? Cap and Iron Man are my favourite Marvel characters and I do want to follow their lives (although I suspect Cap isn't Steve Rogers any more which is another deterrent). It also explains why I never contributed to any of the topics about contemporary titles like Clint - I prefer the old stuff.

With a difficult home game against Bournemouth, I suspect that you are going to need some favours from elsewhere, Steve. However, seeing as Birmingham City lost last night at home to Wigan, it turns out that if my team, Bolton Wanderers, beat Birmingham at home at the weekend, they will get relegated instead of Millwall. Your only concern might be that in the last two matches Dougie Freedman has blooded a few youngsters from our development squad. Not that they've let us down, though. Fingers crossed, eh? I can't remember Birmingham having a decent side since Trevor Francis was playing for them. I don't think we'll miss them for a year or two.

Steve Rogers returned to being Captain America a few years ago. However, the run that preceded it (with Bucky as Cap) was excellent. Under Ed Brubaker the comic has been better than it has been for many years.

I'd strongly agree with that. Brubaker's run was excellent. A very 40s/50s feel to it.

It's good to know that you can still pick up comics free of charge, isn't it? I bought a shed load of issues of Bunty today, but I had to pay £260 for them. As I then had no money left, I couldn't buy any more issues of Judy, or of Mandy.
