I already have a ropey condition copy of the record (But without Pic Sleeve) Hence my going after this one! But how the picture has any connection with the song-beats me! I wonder if Island records asked Thomsons for permission?

I doubt if Island had permission else there'd be a copyright acknowledgment. It looks to me as though they've changed the character's appearance just enough to think they'd be able to get away with it (and in the event it seems they were right!). In the same way some local buses run by First group are currently displaying a cautionary notice in which a cartoon character clearly based on Roger the Dodger (but with a slightly altered jumper) ends up in the dock for trying to 'dodge' his fare.

Incidentally, I don't know how the law stands in the UK at present but I seem to remember that MAD Magazine actually won a landmark court case in America under the First Amendment when they were accused of infringing copyright with their parodies of famous TV and comic-strip characters.

A left wing website I used to visit a lot had a "slap" section where you could beat up people they hated. One was Barney (the dinosaur). After legal threats he was turned blue, and named Baaarney, and after further legal threats was turned red, given horns, and renamed Barmy XD.

Anyway, yesterday I got my latest (and possibly last XD) win from Compal, the first 93 issues of New Eagle, with the complete (and very long) story of how Dan Dare('s grandson) liberated Earth from the Mekon. They also came with 5 Action Force mini-comics (the stories are far better than I was expecting) and a heap of other stuff like various posters (including a big one for Matchbox model kits, which I didn't dare to unfold), the programme for the 1980 Eagle Convention, a guide to the 1962 Boy's and Girl's exhibiton, a Dan Dare card game, a Dan Dare phonecard, several issues of BMC with Eagle Articles, a 1979 magazine about Radio Luxembourg, and even a Spacefleet cap badge! There was also an old self-published Eagle-related magazine, with various newspaper clippings with the obituaries of Marcus Morris and several artists inserted.
Now I need some sort of secure box to keep all these extras in...

Trying to save money so resisted the lure of the Comapl Auction. Had to make do with window shopping.
However, two comics did arrive today from an eBay win - Issues 1 and 2 of Wonder Weekly, the Esso comic. £2.31 the pair.

Looking at one of these today I couldn't help noticing that the headline doesn't leave any doubt about who the character is based on:

"Don't get caught like Roger...One dodge too many!"

In the absence of any copyright notice I'm left wondering whether this constitutes some kind of 'homage' or just barefaced theft...! (It's not as though First Group couldn't afford to pay the going rate after all!)

I got the latest copies of 2000AD, Judge Dredd Megazine and The Mighty World of Marvel.

I also got my Commando subscription free gift - The Best of the Victor Book for Boys. A good book. A pity I got it last Christmas.

Some seller with a wierd name had several full bound years, some of which found their way to Phil-Comics. I got the 1984 year for myself!
