...Nobody?

OK - to be going on with here's another one of this week's accidental comics discoveries - this time from a local market stall. Script by the wonderful Oliver Postgate and art by sometime Supercar artist Mevin. Fireworks Night really is a marvelously colourful subject for such a visual medium.

On the whole girls' comics tended not to celebrate Bonfire Night as enthusiastically as those aimed at boys. However here's a notable exception by an artist who provided the early covers for Tina and Princess Tina. When I had the chance to look at some of his original boards on Phil Clarke's table at a recent comic mart I was really impressed to learn that he'd painted almost exclusively in oils, and that the printed versions only hint at the true quality of the brushwork and the vibrancy of his colours. What's more a certain well-known artist for American comics was so taken by them that he immediately snapped one up for his personal collection.



As a matter of interest does anybody happen to know this painter's name?

Many thanks for showing us these quality works, Phil. I don't have any of the desirable Fireworks issues from the 'old days' as they are often a good bit more expensive on e-bay. You seem to have been able to have held onto your original comics from your youth, but I'm afraid my old comics ended up in the flames of the fire [appropriately enough for this thread!]

I've had such a busy weekend...doing plenty of craft fairs at the moment..and going well..

Love the Pippin one what a great firework display....I'm glad today Dandy and beano are waking up to the many visual possibilities the firework issue has to offer..

I would like (please!!!!!) to see the part two of The Nervs..it sure was a gross strip..But very imagnative..

I'm also trying when I have time.to find another firework issue..
Hope everyone has seen Lew's really good 50's comics on the firework issue and stories..

Hi folks,

As this thread is fairly new, I'd just like to try one more time and ask whether anyone remembers a Guy Fawkes board game which comprised 3-4 centre pages (collected over 3-4 weeks) of I think either Whizzer and Chips, Whoopee or Buster, probably sometime on October between 1978 - 1980 (cannot exactly remember).

I know I asked on here before (http://comicsuk.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3457) but I'm checking again as I'd really like to collect the issues concerned, just cannot remember exactly when or what they were.

Anyone know? Thanks again in advance.

Guy Fawkes cut-out game ran in the four October issues of Whoopee in 1979 (Oct. 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th).
