Yes I have all seven seasons of Bewitched on dvd. I bought the first season in black and white before discovering there was also a colourised version so I bought the set again. My mate, Steve, who is a film buff (and comic collector) hates the idea of colourising old movies but I must admit I prefer my copy of Scrooge (Alastair Sim) in colour. Same goes for Red River - how can you have an epic Western in black and white? Admit B&W works with the Cagney/Bogart gangster films though.

BTW at the comic fair yesterday I saw someone selling a Bewitched annual so it does have a comic connection.

I'm with your mate on this one, Steve. Obviously it's a personal thing but I suspect that the older you are, the more likely you are to accept unquestioningly the director's decision to use black and white rather than colour. Colour would ruin Scrooge for me, as it would David Lean's Great Expectations, Carol Reed's The Third Man and loads of others. Black and white works wonderfully with colour in The Wizard of Oz but whoever had the bright idea to colourise It's A Wonderful Life needs a lengthy period of reflection and corrective thinking in a Siberian gulag. On the other side of the coin, Ronin, a relatively recent film, could dispense with its colour altogether and lose absolutely nothing from the atmosphere and tension.

I wasn't all that discriminating during my teenage years, Colin. Whichever female film star was on the front cover of Picturegoer sustained me for that month. With maturity I transferred my affections to Lesley Anne Down.

My favourite was Deanna Lund in Land of the Giants. Beautiful red hair, my sister hated her when it was shown in the 60s - she was probably jealous that Steve was always rescuing her. I got the Land of the Giants on dvd recently and showed it to my sister - she expressed the same disgust at Deanna as she did 40 years ago. Here's Deanna in giant mode herself giving the Spindrift a lift. Or was it Spendthrift?

Oh dear, I'd forgotten how gratuitous these pictures were, never mind. Women were much better looking in the 40s, 50s and 60s.

Has anyone picked up the Hammer Glamour book? Madeleine Smith on the cover. She was meant to be signing it at Forbidden Planet but cancelled.

Didn't Deanna marry her LAND of the GIANTS co-sta opposite in real-life, Steve?

Not that I know of. I'll check her website. She still looks good today.

She did. She married Don Matheson after Land of the Giants was cancelled, but divorced him in the late 70s.
