Not the first place you'd expect to find it admittedly.

The Ghosts of St Giles looks like it might be from Cor!! given the thinner page size and the fact it isn't a DC Thomson comic. Also pages look glued rather than stapled. Also could be early Whoopee which started out as a Cor!! sized comic.

The Ghosts of St Gildas is from a girls comic, (June and Pixie Summer Special 1974).I agree, it would not of been out of place in some of the humour comics mentioned.

Niblet: I can not find, "The Ghostly Leg" but i have found (The Hand), if you are interested?

The Mother of the Nutts, looks similar, to the Teacher in.. The Ghosts of St Gildas strip, i believe Nadal drew the Nutts? Just a thought.

Speaking of Tarzan, have you seen this strip, it is from a Monster Fun Comic.

Anyone hazard a guess at who drew 'the Hand'? I reckon I know......

Got to agree that there is a strong resemblance, but it is definitely a different artist (well, 98% sure). The elements that signal the differences to me are first the chins. Nadal's are more rounded, whereas artist X seems to go more for the Bruce Forsyth or Jimmy Hill style. Second are the noses. Nadal are most face on, where artist X are more in profile.

Plus Nadal's characters always feel slightly "squashed" where artist X's characters have always got that "stretched" feel to them, even when he is doing short characters.

So I am not basing this on a deliberate policy of denial. I am looking at the art in question and quantifying why I feel that the St Gildas strip is not Nadal's. I have a sneaky suspicion that we have spoken about this guy before. However, as I do not have a Dictionary of Hotspur artists, I cannot give a definitive answer.

It's signed by Les Barton in the final panel.

Reg Parlett was the original artist.

I guess 'The Ghosts of St. Gilda's' could be by Juan Rafart or Bruno Marrafa - or even Alf Saporito; I've always tended to get them mixed up with Nadal. I'll have to dig out some examples for a comparison.

Great to see Trevor Metcalfe's 'Make a Date' strip by the way Matrix - I take it that's another gem from your intriguing collection of girls' comics?

Ouch! That was almost 'punful'! As to the artist, I have looked at them on Lambiek and I still don't think we have hit gold yet. However, I have just found some more comic gold. Check out the soapbox special thread...
