I bet Alex Salmond would like a copy too!
Comparing British and American covers I think it's important to remember that in the US comic books tended to be impulse buys at a drugstore (or wherever) which made the cover all-important in determining an issue's sales. While the same thing possibly applied to Holiday Specials and circulation-boosting free gift issues in the UK, the existence of an infinitely superior distribution system meant that most weekly comics were acquired via a standing order with the local newsagent: consequently the cover could, for the most part, be treated as just another story page.
I'm not surprised that Brian was so fond of his early Dredd covers for Eagle Comics - like me he grew up with Murphy Anderson's fantastic DC covers of the 1960s, so the chance to produce something similar for the US market must have seemed like a dream come true (this was especially noticeable in the amazing Green Lantern covers that introduced him to most American readers).

Whether one thinks that Beano cover is the best example of a comic cover or not, the thing is it's the only comic cover on the list. It'd be nice if that won instead of Cosmo or any of the other magazines. A vote for that Beano cover is a vote for comics.

I completely agree.

As comic lovers, we should be proud.

That sounds fantastic!
This is my favourite comic cover, possibly ever:
