I wonder how much that would cost?BTW I am a poor impoverished fan, hence my seemingly heckler style vis a vis the publishers to get something done 8)

If so, then you?d probably need to get DCT?s permission and pay them. One way around the problem would be to get permission to use the characters, then get an artist and writer to do some new stuff.

DCT are sticklers for copyright and, yes, artists have to sign over rights too. (Or at least I did on the handful of Fun-Size comics I did for them.) I think there are one or two exceptions.

Starhawk, if you want to go down the road of doing a comic, you have to:

1, realise that this is not an excersise in making money.
2, be prepared for lots of emails, weeks of scanning to get the pages clean, and tonnes of phoning comic shops hustling buisness.
3, be prepared to have money locked up in a project that will more than likely not break even.

After all the negatives, go for it! Its great fun putting it together, and meeting all the people who enjoyed the story from their youth and your efferts too, its a bit of an ego stroke!

[/quote]any more (Doomlord) volumes coming out David?

As of yet no firm plans, I am not near enough break even to chance another one, but I have managed get the Forbidden Planet Chain(non FPI)
to commit to taking some issues, and hopefull there will be somthing in the JD Megazine in a month or so.
If in the next while it ticks along nicely I am hoping to have something out around christmas(fingers crossed).

Now, I?m all for wallowing in comic nostalgia. But we also need to look to the future. How many kids today own mobile phones that can download images? Could they be used to download comics? Beano on an iPod? Maybe they already do so. Then there?s those comics on the Web. They?re just like the printed versions! All this technology going to waste. How about introducing some simple animation? Instead of speech bubbles that get in the way of the image, have the characters speak and their mouths move. Or, if that?s too complex, how about this: the reader points and clicks on a frame and the text comes up. It stays long enough to read, then fades away. Simple interactive comics. Of course, you could make them more complex. At certain points in the story the reader clicks the frame and is told the character needs to do ?A? or ?B.? The reader makes the choice and the story continues. So you have two stories and two endings. This format could be used in an educational way to teach social skills.

Wait a minute! Maybe this is already being done.

I toyed with that kind of thing recently, for some of my Flick toons. I'm no pro, mind, so I'm sure some of the Beano boys here could work wonders compared to my homespun efforts...

Ah! It's my old friend the Toonhound. I was going to say I particularly enjoyed the posteriors, but that might create the wrong impression. Seriously, I?m impressed. This is just the sort of innovative work we need in order to bring comics and cartoons out of the stone age! It's simple, but effective. You could have have all kinds of amazing effects, but that would be overkill. Anyone else out there working on the cutting edge of comics?

Last time I spoke to them about licensing a Billy the Cat collection, they didn't like giving away their material. Maybe that's changed?

Perhaps they decide on a whim. The facsimilie Dandy and Broons books that are coming out soon are to be published by Aurum Press, not DCT.

Bottom line is I can't afford to do it myself..And if I could I wouldn't be in it for the money. As Corp Clott suggested, the internet is prob the way to go.I've taken the first step by launching the website  Now the pro's can take the next step. :P

Another way could be to release a "book" as a PDF document on disc. Same principle as reading them on a website but a little more convenient. Whatever, the main thing is acquiring copyright permission of course.

Well, it is their copyright but it does seem a waste that they're allowing decades of strips to languish in limbo. At least Thomsons have Classics from the Comics and the annual hardback Dandy/Beano collection. Perhaps DC Comics will eventually get around to doing something for the UK market now they own the old IPC material.

Although in Starhawk's case, it's DC Thomson that owns it.

Here?s an idea. What if each member of the forum wrote an article telling people a little about themselves and their interest in comics. How they got started, their comic?s collections, etc. Al could compile them and see if a publisher would be interested. A book about this Website would not only raise its profile but may persuade any comic?s fans still in the closet to come out. Although books about collectors have been published in the past, I don?t think there have been any about collectors and fans of comics.

One title that would work, if someone at egmont would be interested in doing it is an 2000ad Exterme Edition type reprint .
They could do it in the same format as the Exterme Edition (here after EE!)and slip it into the same schedual as EE, coming out on the alternative quarter that EE dosent come out.
Have featured in it stories from Scream, Action, Battle, etc basically anything that could be soldand be of interest to the 2000ad market.

Any thoughts?
