Are they new? I'm off investigating now.
I have a feeling it will be reprint. that's why it's called "the best of"

You can find the links in the annuals thread, plus links to the Best of Hotspur and the Best of Bunty.

Not today but last week as we were in London for 2 days then Brussels for 5 days. What an amazing city for comics. And not only new, hardback, French or Flemish graphic novels. I trawled round some comic shops near the centre and dug around in boxes to find lots of pocket library size comics, a lot of which are British reprints - AP and DCT. I must admit hat I was hoping to find this stuff to add to my collection of Euro pocket libraries. My purchases included a Steel Claw; King Cobra; Oliver (French version of Robin Hood); an issue of Cyclone which features a reprinted DCT strip which is headed, "The Mysterious Archer"; 2 issues of Kit Carson which I think are reprints of British strips, but I'll have to do more checking; A copy of Super Boy - not the Clark Kent one, the French one; some issues of the western, Bill Tornade; X-13; Hardy; Sunny Sun; Frimousse. Plus 2 issues of Le Fantome; a Mandrake collection and 2 issues of De Rode Ridder which is a long running Dutch comic from the Willy Vandersteen studio.

The Mysterious Archer could be X-Bow from Hotspur. Any chance of some pics, as they sound like fantastic buys.

I just wonder how many of the large number of foreign versions of what were originally British strips are simply not legit.

No, not X-Bow, Colin. This strip is an historical and opens with the resume - " Ulric, a young Saxon, searches for his paw, who disappeared while confronting the Danish invaders in Wessex................."
The mysterious archer of the title is a robed, hooded figure who rescues Ulric and then helps the locals in a skirmish v. the Danes. Unfortunately, the dreaded, "A Suivre" ends the episode.
I'd post some illos. but I can't remember how to and when I try I often get the message that the illo. is too big. I'll have a try later.
Phoenix, I think many of the reprints are legit. To the extent that both British publishers are mentioned in indicia in some of the titles.

Arrrgggh! I think I know that one. I think it could be an early Victor one. But I will wait for piccies before I say any more.

If you are struggling with the pics, PM me for an assist.

I'm never sure, when I've bought things at a distance and receive them through the post, at what point it counts as "bought" for the purposes of this thread. Is it when money changes hands or when you actually receive the comics? But anyway, I just bought the last seven issues of Spellbound I needed to complete the series, so yay!

Spellbound is so rare, compared to the other titles I collect, that I never expected it to be the first to go, but I guess having such a smaller number of issues told in the end.

The Best of Whizzer and Chips Annual from my local Sainsbury's.

I've handed it to my wife so that I can have it on Christmas Day.

Is this a Sainsbury's exclusive? Please could you reveal what's in it - comic or annual material, from which era, sort of thing - and price?

It's a Sainsburys exclusive but this is all I've found about it:

I'm glad Egmont are doing something for the comic's 45th anniversary anyway.
