Lucky man! Has that still got the free gift?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
When Ranger #1 came out I remember that my local newsagent placed a giant cardboard display in front of the shop. I think Leonard Matthews put a lot of resources into the launch and was really disappointed when sales didn't match those of the highly successful Look & Learn.

Nothing in the charity shops ended up in Forbidden Planet facing the 50p boxes. (I'm not afraid to spend )
With a couple of quid I bought-----,
MIRACLEMAN No1
MIRACLEMAN No2
Don't think these are too fashionable with today's buyers but for me I like the retro covers and black and white marvelman stories towards the end.
MIRACLEMAN ANNUAL No1
I dont know why it's called an annual it just looks like a normal comic.
PRETTY DEADLY
I like the artwork for this. There was another Miracleman and that would have bought the total to £2.50 but I decided to keep to £2 since that other Miracleman was No8 and not No3.

No no free gift - but my mate Steve has it.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
The new Titan Flash comic. Not British, obviously, but I was curious and 100 pages for £3.99 seemed like a good deal. I surprised myself by enjoying it, even though I'm out of touch with the current versions of Flash and other characters. I think I'll buy the next one, but, right away, I note that one of the stories is continued in another title, JLA. That does put me off a bit.

There is no next one, that's why. It was a one-off.

I'm still looking for that. Where did you pick that up?paw broon wrote:The new Titan Flash comic. Not British, obviously, but I was curious and 100 pages for £3.99 seemed like a good deal. I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Colin, that was in WHS in Falkirk but I only saw the one copy.
Thanks Digifiend. I hadn't realised that. Probably because of the big, First Issue, sign on top. There must be an audience for the title given the popularity of the show. Shome mishtake, shurely.

Just picked up an amazing copy of 'Into Space with Ace Brave!' - Ron Turner's legendary pop-up book from the 1950s.

That's why they're testing sales with one issue, to find out if there's an audience for it. TV viewers aren't necessarily comic readers, and those that are may have already read the stories in the imported American originals.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
In an earlier post I mentioned buying PRETTY DEADLY this was number 4 in the series.
I really like the artwork even though the combination of art and storyline is somewhat confusing
It could be because I started midway in the series but then again some people who started at number1 have sent letters and tweets to comic 4 saying they find it confusing.
Not to be defeated I reread it to get a clearer interpretation.
I am used to the old comicbooks but then again probably it's a good thing to have to pause and get the thinking cap on.
It just a matter of understanding the artist and writers intent,it has a certain style ,I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Just picked up "Famous Fighting Planes of World War II" free gift booklet given away with Rover and Adventure. It was 50p in Deptford flea market. Can Phoenix please tell me which issue it came with date wise? I don't think R&A was numbered was it?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Got a Tiger Annual 1977 in a Stirling second-hand, only to find a number of pages missing
Didn't buy the Scoop 1980 Annual as it was, for some bizarre reason, priced at 9.99 and not 2.99 like the rest.
Went to FP in Edinburgh the other day and was pleased to pick up a few issues of Convergence featuring some of my DC faves from years gone by, i.e. Plastic Man and the Freedom Fighters, Superboy and the Legionof Super-Heroes, The Crime Syndicate, World's Finestand Shazam! All kinda written in the style of yesteryear. I was hoping for a JSA too (as in the proper Earth-2, not that recent nonsense). Maybe another time?

There is a JSA one Chris. Perhaps you'll find it from an online dealer?starscape wrote: I was hoping for a JSA too (as in the proper Earth-2, not that recent nonsense). Maybe another time?
