This time, I bid £37.50 and went for a pint and, on return, found that it had sold for £62 - a mighty jump! I'm not too disheartened. I was always outbid on the first two issues with free gifts with Phil's Auctions and yet managed to buy them a lot more cheaply with other sellers. I guarantee, some day, I shall win a bid on issue 3 with free gift far less than £62. I have patience
That was a crazy price! I was going to try at £35ish but as I was about to bid it jumped.

Bought a really nice piece of Mike Lacey artwork. Xray Specs that appeared in the Monster Fun and Buster Holiday Special 1988. One thing I really like is you can see an old style telephone box had been taped over for a newer one. Plus it has a cool xray of a dinosaur at the bottom. Definitely worth £30!

Bought what looks like a flyer advertising Lion No. 1 today - has anyone seen these before? Is that what this is?

I went to the bootsale this morning got from a stall 8 new poly bagged IDW Dr Who comics for £4 the lot plus a a few new bagged superman comics for 50p each, it was a big bootie with no British comics not even 2000ads . Only a few more weeks of bootsales left in my area most end mid October , so it's back to ebay to pick up back issues from then on.

Apart from a few general cupboard filler comics, I got three comic books that interested me on holiday, my favourite being this one
Image
This is a comic strip I didn't know existed and apparently it was produced by the Daily Mirror with art by Hugh McClelland. This is not in the best of condition and of little value but one I really like .I paid £5 for it from a comic shop in Ryde I.O.W.Here are some more images from it.--

TIP:This particular shop has its annuals in sealed plastic bags and the young lady owner can hear from a distance when the cellotape is being peeled back and someone is trying to view the contents inside and the said lady -she who must be obeyed -is the only one allowed to perform the show the contents ritual. Will mention the other two comicbooks of interest I got when I get around to it.

Hi, Adam Eterno, the problem with Phil's Auctions, he sells so many rare things. Yet, at the same time, you will come across things that he has sold in past; you will bid on said item that suddenly appears from someone else and, hey presto! you end up spending far less. case in point: I bid £40 on Bunty-Judy summer special 1977 a few months back on Phil's Auctions. I lost out. A few months later, I bought it for £11 and it was in great condition with no writing inside. That tells a story. That's why don't be too disheartened. You will definitely buy any Roy of the Rovers comic with free gift for less than £30. Sometimes, like other comics, they get too inflated.

I bought a Fables collection from our local new comics shop - I'm behind on catching up with Fables, which I think has now just finished the complete storyline. And in the background I can hear my partner reading old Phoenix stories to our 5 year old - she has gone back to some old issues because we recently bought a bunch of binders to hold the old ones tidily, and even though they are heavy to hold, she finds it a really good way of managing them it turns out.
jintycomic.wordpress.com/ Excellent and weird stories from the past - with amazing art to boot.

I'm in no hurry so happy to wait for it. I remember buying it when it came out.......and using the gift!

As mentioned earlier the other two holiday buys I got which are also revelent to Uk comics are these---
Image
Having got bored of finding little of interest in the charity shops I went to an antiques shop and got the G Swan funnies album for £7 having got it knocked down from £9.I now have three of these G Swan albums in my collection .
The GARTH BOOK I did get from a charity shop for £3.50p.This contains Frank Bellamy reprints from 1971.I passed up the chance of buying another GARTH book before I went on Holiday because I thought the modern cover art was terrible and it should have had a more retro cover.

Abacus, see how those images have url tags either side? If you're trying to link to bigger versions of them you need to put [img]image-url[/img].

The app I use for sending pictures is gilawhost it's the only app I have found to work. This gives me a picture email number. The app itself gives little or no information and you just have to guess what to press and then copy the number given ,the word forum being a hint :) .The reason for the url at the side of the pictures is that if I just send the picture without using this forums above url the pictures get placed at the start of the post I send when sometimes I want to put wording before the picture.I have deliberately down sized the pictures so they don't take up too much space.I will look at your suggestion but this is all new to me and I'm still finding my feet.

As mentioned with the host I am using the pictures automatically jump to the beginning of the posting,by using the forums url I can anchor pictures in the places I want them to appear.I am not attempting to point readers to another address .This solution works but I will use an improved method when I find one.

gilawhost down changed to directupload that seems to solve all problems

A good day today. Firstly, for a change, I had a day off work. A sunny mid-afternoon engaged me and my dog for a two hour walk and, then on returning home, I found Fury no. 2 with free gift, Bullet no. 2 with free gift, and Buster and Monster Fun Holiday Special 1977 lying in wait for me. But I didn't get too giddy. I proceeded to cook dinner rather than go out and indulge in a takeaway. :)

Red Dagger #1 and #2 turned up yesterday morning along with Buzz #2. Read Red Dagger #1 last night (Twisty)......brilliant! I think this may be the next set I'll be collecting. I'd never even heard of Red Dagger before a couple of weeks ago!

At the comic fair in London I picked up 110 Beezers and Toppers from the 1960s for a pound each.
