What comics did you buy today?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
4 x Buster from Dec. 1977 (£1.20 a pop, which was surprising), Disney Time #9 1977 (8 down; 13 to go), and Topper #1273 1977. I remember posting how it was incredibly hard to obtain issues of Topper previously. I have 4 now from 1977. There's another 3 available at moment but their condition ain't appealing. In ten years, I may have a full year

On the subject of TV 'historicals' Adprint also produced some great annuals for shows like Robin Hood, Sir Lancelot, Hawkeye, R.C.M.P. and William Tell - often with stunning artwork by the Embleton brothers.

You probably already know but just in case, there are a few "Topper" lots on Compal this month: http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/aucti ... 4c01151aecgeoff42 wrote:4 x Buster from Dec. 1977 (£1.20 a pop, which was surprising), Disney Time #9 1977 (8 down; 13 to go), and Topper #1273 1977. That took its' own sweet time. It arrived today, very well packaged and does look rather nifty.colcool007 wrote:Well, 2000AD popped up on my feed with a deal I could not resist. A hardback version of Fiends Of The Eastern Front is currently on sale for £3.99. £2 for the book and £1.99 for postage. I did not think it too much.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

To stevezodiac re "Trying to date a Man From UNCLE annual but there are none in the comics uk gallery"
If you go to http://www.tonystrading.co.uk/galleries ... s-year.htm you get a series of year-by-year galleries showing lots of annuals, going back to 1950.
I've just noticed that if you scroll down to the bottom, you can click on various sub divisions (including TV) then see all the annuals on the site for a particular TV show.
Only of use if you the know the cover of the annual your looking for, but at least it's a start.

Just to add to the dating posts, the British Guide shows 3 Annuals published - '66, '67', '69 by WDL. Also 2 Television Storybooks - 1967 - 1968 by PBS but I don't know who they are/were. Plus an All Colour Comic Album - 1966 by WDL but this one is softcover. No descriptions of covers are listed.

A complete beginning to the week: spiderman weekly #215 that completes 1977 run, and then Rampage #2 with free stratocruise model free gift, courtesy of Phil's Auction, which completes a whole series. Cost me £21 but, some moons ago, a bid of £30 on same issue and free gift was outbid; so, i'm rather happy
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Thanks for that Adam; checked it out but there's no 1977 issues available. I know... why should 1977 be so special... that's my starting point
Gotta start somewhere. I was never going to begin pre-1900.

Another batch of 1960s Dandys from the same shop in Echuca. I would have bought them two years ago, but they'd been hidden under a large book in the display cabinet. I could tell what they were from the serrated edges! So I've now got a run from 1001-1005. Did No. 1000 have a special cover?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Well done, Sue.
If only I could find a second hand bookstore that sold comics near me. As it stands, I have to make a 50 kilometre trip up to the Sunshine Coast to visit my regular haunt (the Nambour BookExchange). I don't mind making the trip, though.

Aaaah, you were the one who won. I was also bidding on the Rampage gift but it went beyond my limit. I had the gifts to 1 and 2 only a few years ago but for some reason decided to sell them for about a tenner each. I need to stick with my collection!geoff42 wrote:A complete beginning to the week: spiderman weekly #215 that completes 1977 run, and then Rampage #2 with free stratocruise model free gift, courtesy of Phil's Auction, which completes a whole series. Jackpot #1 from 1979 with free gift practical joke arrived this morning, very happy at £29 when I missed it the last time at £90+. Wham #2 and Boys World #1 also arrived along with #5 of Gem from 1907. Pretty good mixture!
I have also started reading the 1st issue of 4 of Chrononauts by Mark Millar.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Today I bought a copy of "Confession! Album No.1" published by Gerald Swan (see photo). It has a great cover. I'd never heard of this, and it doesn't seem to be mentioned on the web. Does anyone know anything about it, e.g. when it was published? It's a pulp magazine, with a reprint(?) of Darling Romance #2 (Archie Comics, 1949) inside, which features comic strips. I've seen an American pulp with a comic inserted as the centrepages, but not a British one. Were there any other titles that did this?

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Swan published a pulp titled, Confessions of Love - 14 issues, '54 to '55. I can't find any reference to Confession Album. COL reprinted Star Publications material and it's listed on GCD and in the British Guide. You've stumped me with this one!
As this is an Archie reprint - Swan had reprint rights for early Archie stuff - I'm now really curious which Archie title hosted the story(ies) originally. MLJ

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Went to the ephemera fair today and picked up some more Alan Class type british B&W reprints including that 128 page Black Magic Album no. 1 again. Also several of the monthly Black Magic issues plus Race for the Moon (2 issues), Frankenstein two issues by Dick Brieper), two issues of Frogman and Mystic and Spellbound both issue number 56 with Avengers covers. Also got hardback book of Frank Miller's 300 graphic novel and a Brian Bolland Batman Graphic Novel also hardback. Both £2 each and brand new. Oh and a 1971 Jag annual for a pound.
