What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

I remember reading once some roman philosopher writing something like that if the eye could see only green that would be imperfect vision,meaning that all aspects needed to be included.As comic collectors there is a slight danger of thinking everyone is enthusiastic as we are about comics.
When I visit charity shops I often see comics sitting around for weeks with no buyers.At the moment there is a shop with loads of 2000AD comics some with gifts selling at 50p each and they were there two weeks before I went on holiday.Previously in another shop they had lots of 80s Beano comics at 49p each and they were there for a number of weeks.In one way it is probably a good thing as items do not get snapped up before I get there
Similarly if some pottery collector enthused to you about a piece of poole pottery you would probably just return a blank look

The Scope charity shop in Hull city centre has a basket full of Marvel Comics. I didn't look through them, the ones at the front were Spider-Man (and not recent - 1980s at the latest). They were charging £2.50 per comic.

I've found Scope in our city expensive book wise ,charging from £2 upwards for books that would normally end up in the skip.Good luck to them if they can sell them though.Another Charity shop I go to has had look and learn annuals for £2.99 sitting on the shelves for 4/5 weeks now.Yet another shop I go to sells children's books at 10p each which seems a bit ridiculous to me and from which in the past I have bought a Yogi Bear annual and also an Eamond Andrews sports book.One charity shop in town sells all books no matter what size at 75p.

As a buyer I can decide how much something is worth to me and will spend accordingly.Sometimes I buy things I don't really want , the low price being the deciding factor.It is only natural that more people say would choose to shop at aldi instead of waitrose for instance.You have brought the word 'charity' into the equation but that is not usually on the buyers mind when visiting a charity shop though of course maybe it should be.The charity shop has to decide whether it would rather wait weeks to make a sale or whether they want a quicker turnover.
It seems to me listening to the complaints of some charity shop staff it is becoming more of an hard nose business where targets have to be met.


Like the banks before the crash everytime I did a transaction I was asked if I wanted to take out a loan or the occasional rudeness of staff made me instinctively know bad business practice was taking place.How the charities pestered that old lady recently or the more frequent door to door fund raising where you are asked to make a monthly direct debit ,with them quoting the generosity of the neighbours in the area to get you to sign up.Shops where when you make a purchase they want you to buy something else and you can detect the pressure being put on staff behind the request.Bad business practice may yield some quick results but will eventually lead to failure, far better to build a rapport and respect with the customer which will benefit all in the long run.

This is not a criticism but after scrolling down a lengthy list of Sparky Comics I then found the same list reproduced in the next post. You could have just referred to the Sparky list without reproducing it.

Well the problem I see there is that if they start reducing the price of stock after just a month, it's likely to lead to people hesitating to buy anything priced over a few quid in case they can get it cheaper later. Therefore the charity loses out.

I still think that if someone really wanted a particular book they'd be happy to pay three quid for it. Four weeks isn't long. Those books might still find a buyer or two. Not everyone goes into the same charity shop (or any charity shop) every week.
