now compare the new Dennis in the comic....

a no brainer..

Animation works on tv...not in comics...

Also Nigel's original Dennis is so much better.......more action...fun..splashs..splats..

Didn't you notice that they forgot to replace the title graphic this week then? Which makes it even more obvious that it was a reprint...

You're right about Dennis Peter, in fact that particular storyline is now outright impossible because Rasher has been replaced!

The thing that i find most off putting with the new look dennis is his teeth.
This weeks beano also claims to be a special dino issue however there are only 3 dinosaur related strips, i can't help feeling that was scraping the barrel for a theme.

You mean Minnie, Bash Street, and Beano Manga. The theme issues always have some non-themed strips, frankly only the reprints have any excuse for this.

Judging by the advert for next week's issue, next week's Minnie should've been last week's - "What's up with Minnie? Could it have anything to do with going back to school?" In the first week of October!?!

The Dennis strip (by Tom Paterson) that Peter scanned is one of the best Dennis stories I can remember - it was very funny and well drawn. I like all the jokes, like the ducks swimming anti-clockwise in a clockwise pond, and I chuckled at Sergeant Slipper being arrested. By good old Rasher, I might add.

I'm not convinced by the new Dennis either. I secretly hope that they go back to the old style, obviously not in the near future, just at some point. I think the new style works on TV, but looks pretty bad in the comic.

As for the Billy Whizz header, they don't tend to change it for the David Parkins (when they were still using them - the Beano hasn't reprinted one of his since last November) and Trevor Metcalfe strips, but they do change it for the Vic Neill strips. Also, they reprinted one solitary strip drawn by John Dallas, again with the header changed.

Tom Patersons old Dennis jumps of the page and I remember when the artists used to do the covers, Tom Patersons used to leap off the shelves, the latest ones just blend in to the pulpy mush of a thousand poorly organised childrens comics! They should let the artists do the covers again. Just my opinion though, From a design point of view I think the even older Beanos with the comics on the cover and the tonne of white space would be eye catching amongst the others I couldn't even find the Beano on the shelves last week. Perhaps im just being an old fart who wants his childhood back?

i agree, what happened to the time when the strip started on the front of the comic, it looks neater and provides more story, or at least have a front page that relates to the story.

Somebody quick! Give that wardrobe a job! Their undoubted, unrecognised, unequivocal anaylsis is completely missing from a top job in publishing. Why that person isn't already there is a total mystery!

I agree as well. The messy cover, not to mention the fact that the characters from the comic aren't given prominent roles on the cover most issues, is one of Dandy Xtreme's main problems, and I'm sure we don't want the Beano to head the same way. Although the rot started in the Dandy with its first relaunch in 2004, when they stopped putting a strip on the cover.

Yes it is. They're telling the truth about how they came up with the idea - it's just that they came up with it 10 years ago and not six weeks ago.
