I wonder if they'll edit A Touch Of Brimstone like it was in USA, and Channel 4 did in 1985 repeat - ie the amount of times villain Carthy (Peter Wyngarde) tries to whip Mrs Peel (Diana Rigg) - was 10 on original show, C4 edited to 2.

My digibox synopsis clearly lies - and a later one stated it was about the "adventures of Dr Keel and his glamourous sidekicks" . Whoever wrote this hasn't done his homework or is an ignoramus abput the series (I've known many who are; give funny looks when I say I like this series).

They are in fact showing the Emma Peel episodes from The Avengers black and white 4th series. Can't complain - as they were mega ace.

In one of last week's episode she faced up to a female karate expert but the fight was poorly done with the "expert" being downed by a couple of pathetic blows. Still a korking tv series though.

Yes, I remember in the 1960s my mum and dad always saying "She's got her trousers on so she's going to have a fight in a minute" whenever Emma Peel changed to her catsuit etc.

The Avengers is definitely my fave rave show from the 60s.......and it is not just the Diana Rigg element that appeals (sorry!) to me......I like the later Linda Thorson entries as well.....the bizarre British elements ( often scribed by Brian Clements) were a winning ingredient from this very classy show......also the epic theme music by Laurie Johnson.......the only UK show that ever made prime time coast to coast in the USA.

Noticed Patrick Newell in one of the first episodes last week. Of course he would go on to play Mother in the Linda Thorson episodes. I preferred Linda Thorson to Diana Rigg as far as looks were concerned but neither could beat Gabrielle Drake in UFO. sigh!

Gabrielle Drake was also a major character in The Brothers. I bought series one some months ago but I've been so busy that up to now I haven't even removed the cellophane wrapper. It looks as if we'll have to make do with it anyway because it seems that the company holding the rights to all the remaining series has gone into liquidation. Pity!

Linda Thorson was something ridiculously young like 19 when she was cast in the Avengers: she has aged badly today though and in fact the oldest Avengers girl Honor Blackman has easily worn the best out of the three despite being around 90!

Watching the series on channel 61 (Following MASH) afraid I find some Avengers rather less than fine- for me- though I did enjoy the Cybernauts ep (Sparky writer Peter Clark obviously caught that one back in 65) Looking forward to `Man-Eater of Surrey Green` the only time in the series you get a real alien life-form!!

Of the black and white Rigg episodes of 1965 to 66, one especially bizarre episode called THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT. -------featuring Em trapped in a hi- tech futuristic house by an evil genius-----perfectly sums up the outlandish tone of the series at it's best.

Yes! "House" was quite good- except for that ludicrous boy scout character who was revealed to be one of their own agents!! (So why was he so menacing to Mrs Peel?) sadly- on current viewing I notice so many plot holes in them. Worst offender is `Honey for the Prince` for me- a truly awful Avengers episode indeed! The Linda Thorson series had some rather good concepts in and a few were pretty serious drama "Thingummyjig" "Killer" "Pandora" and "Stay Tuned".

For myself I would love some of the missing 1966/1968 series of "Mystery and Imagination" to `turn-up` but I doubt if that'll happen.

The actor who gets bumped off in the pre-credit sequence of The Avengers episode 'All Done With Mirrors' was my dad's cousin, Peter Elliott. He had lots of small parts in various TV adventure shows in the sixties; Saint, Danger Man, etc. I never met or knew him personally though.
