Gosh! I didn't see them either. Any other time I'd have expected Smash! #1 with its free gift to have gone for £40 by itself - it just goes to show that there are are still some great bargains out there!

I'll post pics when they arrive, the tv21 look pretty good from the pics, the Smash look about very goodish.

I'll also post links to the auctions when they turn up. He said it was his first time selling anything on eBay (a few pos feedback for buying). He's forwarded tracking details so he def sent something!

Now that koollectablz has got some of his kidding and oopsing out into the open, I would like to think that sometime soon he will feel able to reveal the reasons why he feels that kidding and oopsing are such important components in his posts. I say this because members are used to more straightforward presentations, which contain neither kidding nor oopsing. And words can be such slippery things if we are not careful with them, can't they?

I doubt very much whether there is anything you can teach me about comics, koollectablz. Oh, and by the way, you have misspelt oopsing.

I'm uncertain as to just how much good it will do me to spend some time in my garden smiling at the bees but as you have been thoughtful enough to recommend the activity, I feel obliged to return the favour by suggesting that you might benefit from communing with some of the bats in your belfry. Just to clarify, in case you need to identify what we might call the miscreant bats, they are the ones whose activity seems to be confusing your recollection of the source of your recent acquisition of the first eighteen issues of Smash, and possibly even the price you had to pay for them as well. Quite a lot of bats may be involved. In any case the fact that you tried to give the impression that you didn't know that the first eighteen issues of Smash was a bargain at £40 does suggest that you don't have much of an idea of the value of those funny papers for kids, so I would recommend that you stay out of the marketplace until such time as you have learned those values, in order to avoid being ripped off by those eBay users who are economical with the truth.

I just could not resist sticking my oar in. So, here goes. By your own admission, Phoenix, your expertise is in the Big 5 DCT papers, and perhaps other DCT material. Forgive me and correct me if I have missed your other fields of expertise in comics, please. But I notice you said at some point something to the effect of not having read a GN or having bought any new comics for a number of years. So unless you've been studying some of the many works on the comics industry, you can't be as knowledgeable as you seem to think. I know a lot about the industry - not only in the U.K - but would certainly not claim that "I doubt very much whether there is anything (you)/(fill in name) can teach me about comics" as I'm very aware of how many questions I have, how lacking my knowledge is in a number of areas and how much there is out there that I haven't yet touched on or discovered. See the work colcool has done on Micron and other pocket library publishers. Or, as I have recently started pondering, the publishing history of mister-x (the Italian MMM, not the American or any other version) in Italy and France, and of all places, The Netherlands. It may bore the undergarments of most of you but it interests me and adds to our knowledge of the hobby. All of which is no bad thing, imo.
By the way, "My bad" is in common usage in the States and is sometimes still heard in the U.K. And watching and listening to bees on lavender is one of life's great delights.

Totally got to agree with that, for example tbh I had very little interest in digests at all until I've read some of the posts on here.... Now I'm thinking, crumbs I've missed out here!! Lol. So many thanks to the guys here with such an enthusiasm for what they collect!!! It's annoyingly catching!

Weirdly I was always strangely put off by the fonts they used for the texts, but I've begun to pick a few up when I see them cheap and a lot are pretty good reading. Count me a commando fan - and I never thought I'd say that!

Picked up Patience by Clowes today.... That guy is probably THE greatest GNist working in the field today.

Just AWESOME!

In other news, I also picked up a few holiday specials, the '77 polystyle Dr Who Winter Special and a couple Cor! from the early seventies, I'm a sucker for those! 96 pages for 18p!!!!

Now that was entertainment!!

Well I think I know all there is to know about all DCT story papers for boys and girls between 1921 and 2001. I don't have major collections of others apart from Girls' Crystal, School Friend and Girl so to be fair, I would fall short on knowledge about all comics. However, my main gripe over this new member is that he doesn't come across as particularly trustworthy. I suppose it is possible that by now the evidence of his purchases of Smash and TV21 that he told the forum about will be available on eBay. Perhaps Adam Eterno, who reported that he could find no evidence of these sales in the eBay 'Sold Items' section, could have another look for us. If he finds them I will apologise to koollectablz. Then again if he doesn't.........
