I picked up this week's Beano tonight for the first time in months - I liked the idea of the do it yourself comic page complete with stickers. I'm tempted to do some mini strips myself and submit them.

Some good news. They apologised for the printing error and said that they hope next week's free extra 16 pages make up for it. So they're not bumping up the price then.

Yep Price has stayed at £2, but no extra strips, just a 16 page pull out of a pretend Bash Street kids school magazine which is mainly text....A bit disapointing really.

The drawings except for a few are done as if the Bash street kids drawn it...and written it..so child like drawings...Winston the cat poster advert was nice..
I'd prefered more variety in comic styles and other comic artist for next time...it had number 1 on the cover
The cover of The Beano is very striking and its also on the back cover...

Sounds like a homage to Baxendale who put out quite a few Swots and Blots strips as drawn by George Blot, kiddy style complete with ink blots.

What is it with The Beano and bright Orange. They seem to be using that colour alot on the covers recently.

I find the Dennis the Menace story a bit strange this week, it's almost as if they are saying the Dennis from 1981 is now Dennis Dad.

Looks that way... but his jumper stripes were inverted and he doesn't have a Gnasher. Also, Granny doesn't resemble the old Dennis's Mum design.

Yeah true, also the Calamity James in this weeks issue was originally in the 50th Birthday Beano.

I like the idea that when Dennis' parents were reinvented, DCT actually went forward a generation so that Dennis became Dad with a new Dennis and Gnasher. Now if that was true, that would make Bea Dennis' aunt since she was born before the parental update.
Regarding Gran not looking original Mum, well maybe she just didn't age very well.
PS Like the retro logo Dennis/Gnasher strip is now using.

Bea has appeared since the update, albeit very rarely. It did look like she'd been retconned away for a while.

Didn't think of that! There's a danger if I go too far down that road I'll start confusing myself!

I thought the retcon was quite funny, actually. I'm perfectly fine with the new Dennis's Dad being the Dennis I read as a kid (though if that Dennis was a child in 1981 he should been a teenager in the 90's!)
Still, that probably means the old Granny I knew has gone to the great biker / rock festival in the sky
