Titan's collections are available at Waterstones and any High Street bookshop and Forbidden Planet etc. If they don't have them in stock you can order them.
Thanks, I checked out Waterstones at christmas and it didn't occur to me about ordering.I didn't expect them to have the Johnny Red comic for instance as they deal in books. One or two comics have been mention in the past which I was unable to find on the shelves of Forbidden Planet at the time ,although one customer I spoke to in there said there was usually a couple of weeks delay from the publishing dates to being on their shelves.

I watched an interesting repeat film recently about Ladybird books telling how each book was produced from one large sheet of paper folded with the pictures always opening on the same side.It also explained the huge amount of effort that went into promoting the book and getting it into the shops until it became a top brand .

Today there is an adult ladybird type book probably trying to create a nostalgic effect.

A lot of comic producers have great products but I think more could be done to make them easily available.
As a child there was a lot of publicity when a new comic appeared and I could get the first issue with no problem.
Ok. I thought you were still talking about books when you mentioned Titan after your comment about annuals. Most of Titan's comics are not in high street shops. They're aimed at the 'direct sale market' of comic shops in the UK, USA, and other countries. Forbidden Planet and other comic shops stock them or should do if the staff order enough. (FP are pretty much the retail arm of Titan, as they're both owned by Nick Landau.) Johnny Red No.3 was published last Thursday.

The only Titan Comics available in the high street (eg: WH Smith) are the newsstand editions of Doctor Who, Batman, The Flash, Simpsons, Adventure Time etc.

Regarding the publicity of children's comics, unfortunately it's long been considered too expensive to advertise them on tv or in newspapers like they used to 50 years ago.

Yesterday on the market a chap was looking through a box of Scorcher comics and had put one on one side which was relevant to the home football side."Are you buying this one I asked?" to which he laughed and said"I'm buying them all!"guess I should have been there 5 minutes earlier :) .
The seller also had some 70s Dandy comics at a pound each and a 1974 Dandy annual plus a 1979 Dandy annual at £2 each, good prices but after thinking about it decided I was probably looking for older stuff and left them.

Our local auction house had 4 boxes of D C Thomson annuals ranging from 1977 to 2006. At 15 - 20 quid for the lot, I did think about it but gave it a miss this time.

I missed out on an issue of the Big One (19/12/1964(. I just procrastinated a little too long and was gone when I inquired. :(

If it wasn't reduced, why was it in the sales box? I would've thought their sale box would have everything cut to half their previous price - in this case £2. They often have books at £2 or 3 for £5, which go down to £1 if they go in the sale.

They probably thought no one would notice , they did the same with one or two other books.Mind you the Works have so many sales during the year with each sale ending with a countdown such as three days to go, two days to go , one day to go notices in the window.
No matter, it is one shop I would hate to see go from the High street as I have picked up a number of great comic books from them..
Not like another bargain bookshop in town that is closing down after a few months, which goes to show how difficult selling books is.

I'm going to have to stop buying the Sun newspaper as Strikers strip now seems to only online, and the dear Deidre photo strip is much too exciting for me.

Striker is on The Sun's website, yes. But if they don't update on time, it's also been posted on the Striker World forum daily since it disappeared from the paper. You can also read Hagar the Horrible online.

In the charity shop saturday the hardback books were 50p and paperbacks 20p and amongst them were a dozen or so modern US comics

.I thought at 20p each I might bag a few.Having sorted out ones with complete stories(non of this to be continued nonsense)l had half a dozen or so and as I was going through them the shop assitant walked by and said the comics were a pound each and had just arrived .I pointed to the sign to which he looked and said we could do a deal.I didn't want to negotiate from a pound a comic so I left them ,they weren't must buys for me anyway.

Another charity shop had Super Gran book(remember the tv series)which they wanted £2.50 for.The comic strip art wasn't that great therefore again I didn't bother.

The same shop had Bobo Bunny comics at a pound each. This is a nursery comic therefore not that interesting as an adult collector, but would be ok as a comic collection example, I may revisit this if it is still there at another time.

I dunno if this counts, but I saw the third Willy the Kid book at a charity shop today. Iirc it's the hard one to find, had a nice dust wrapper on it. They were asking £12 which I thought was steep so I gave it a miss.

Given that the book is nearly 40 years old and long out of print I'd say £12 would be a bargain.

That's my trouble , I remember when comics were 2d a pint was 1s1d and it was less than 50p to watch a football match. Now that comics are £4 or more I have to take time out to adjust. :D
