What I lost in quantity, I made up for in quality. Grandville Bete Noire and issue 1 of Champion is my loot from ECC. And after having a cheeky shufti at Hugh's other stock, I see he brought at least one Commando to tempt me with!

Any chance of a cover scan, abacus? It sounds interesting, especially as I've never heard of it.

Here are some pics it's full colour throughout with a number of short stories

Not the best internet connection here and battery needs recharging.

Is that Champion the Fleetway comic or the earlier story paper published by AP? Either way it's quite a find! (I only have a facsimile of the 1960s one, though I remember buying it when it came out)

It looks perfectly adequate to me, abacus. Thanks for the scans. One thought on the content. I did initially wonder, when looking at the presentation of
Hippo-Island Picnic, with the picnic imminent and the kettle to be boiled, if some cannibals and a missionary were going to be introduced, and I suppose they could be on the next page in view of the 'capsized' hippo. If not, kudos to the artist for sidestepping a controversial issue.

Phil, it is the 1966 version. I have been looking for an issue from the run for years as we all discussed back in the late 2000s about the madness of the Von Sturm story illustrated by Eric Bradbury.

Wow! The only times I've seen that no.1 for sale in recent years it went way over my budget!

Gosh! What's happening to our island? It's sunk! (That's it! next page onto other things). There are a number of short stories and one or two puzzles and things to make plus some comic strip types and strangely only two of the 120 pages feature snow ..I had not heard of the artist and writer before but there is a brief article at Wikipedia .

Champion #1 is a great buy, I've only ever seen it twice in about 3 decades.

Here is the front cover of issue 1 of the 1922 version. The rear cover has gone walkabout but, as I don't collect The Champion, it doesn't really matter. A few years back I bought a run from that first issue as far as the last issue of 1926 from Billy Nicholls, a friend of mine who lives in the Wirral.

As I said, it was one of those ones that I had been looking for, but never thought I would get. I ended up getting that Commando which was issue 181. I also bought issue 1 of Love and Rockets and 3 pages of Matt Clark's work on Doom Patrol which meant not quite breaking the bank but I did leave it quite bruised!

Even though I got the complete run of Cheeky in 2013, I was looking for a better copy of the 1981 Summer Special... Until now!
I just bought a replacement copy of the 1981 Summer Special. My old copy and the unwanted 1979 issues will be up for sale very soon (by the end of May.)

As far as I'm aware, Col, I've never been there so could you please let forum members know where you acquired your time travel machine.
