That's very true Phoenix. I sometimes think that Eagle was basically what Modern Wonder (with its cutaway drawings by L. Ashwell Wood and full colour Flash Gordon strip) would have naturally evolved into by the 1950s if the War hadn't intervened.

Being a young fellow aged mid 70's I cycled to the charity shop a few miles away which I hadn 't visited for three weeks and that had the £1 comic boxes.
They had added some more stock since my last visit.
I narrowed my selection down to four and when I took them to the counter the lady said £2
"what? "I said thinking I had misheard.
She said she was now selling them at 50p each and I could have 4 more for £4 if I wanted.
Basic bread and butter comics but I got.

I had the chance to buy ALICE IN SUNDERLAND a few weeks ago from a charity shop and having since read parts online it would have been my kind of book ,I should still come across it though at some carboot.
Regarding the EAGLE I mentioned in a post some time back that I thought the production of it was influenced by MODERN WONDER mag. and some copies of M.W.that I have got ran the FLASH GORDON comic strip on the back page.
The impact of the first EAGLE comic like any other craze belongs to its time.
I was happy to be there in that decade.

I bought No.1 of Bobo Bunny off eBay. The main significance for me is that it was the first ever regular comic I had as a child before I discovered the likes of The Dandy and The Beano (then it was quickly dropped).

2 Battle PL Summer Specials and 22 Commandos of which only one was post-decimalisation!

On the Eagle/Modern Wonder comparison it's worth remembering that Odhams, who published Modern Wonder and eventually went on to take over Eagle from Hulton, also launched Mickey Mouse Weekly - the first major British photogravure comic - in early 1936, and actually managed to keep it running throughout the War. I wouldn't be surprised if Modern Wonder had to be sacrificed in order to keep its older sibling afloat - albeit at a reduced size and frequency.

The first issue was dated 8 February 1936, Phil. There doesn't seem to have been a free gift with it though.

G-8 and his Battle Aces #1 - Not sure of anything else as it hasn't arrived yet but it's a British version that I can't find much info on.

I was in Sunderland once. I went to their Teacher Training College for an interview. It was a waste of time though because when they asked me about my other applications I had to admit that I was due for interviews at a couple of universities in the North West, so they didn't feel able to offer me even a provisional place. It was published as a companion book to Denis' Super-Duper Superheroes. Both softback books reprinting covers of 1950s UK indie comics. Nice books to have.

Adam, the G8 is a British reprint of an American pulp, which had a long run in the U.S. There was a Gold Key comic of G8 in 1966, which was distributed in U.K. Unfortunately, I have no idea of how many issues of the British pulp were issued.
As for Space Aces, as Lew says, it's a nice book to have and I gained a lot of info from it - despite one of the descriptions ending in mid sentence. Always have a proof reader

It's actually called Super-Duper Supermen! and I've just bought that too from Abe books for less than £4 inc postage. Bargain!

Thanks as usual Paw. It arrived this morning and is indeed a pulp published by T&P and not really a comic in my view. I'll have a read and then back on Ebay probably.

I love the back cover "Smashing News for Yankee-Mag. Fans!" though!
