Just my opinion and I'm all for horror in a comic way though I felt it crossed the line in Rocky Horror show...doing a film which no child should watch!

Still like the Rocky Horror show normally..different stories every week..and some nice over the top dialogue..

Korky the cat had a fun layout with his body being the panels..

My review on the Dandy, Issue 3556

As I walked into WHSmith to buy my Beano and Dandy I saw the celebrity filled front cover but realised there was something different about it. It was really dark. If they wanted an eye-catching front cover why pick that image? Even worse it looks kind of creepy. Harry Hill's smile makes it look like he's about to murder you.

I loved the contents page this week (even of it did look a bit squashed), it was nice seeing a new image rather than stock images. Makes things look more interesting.

Inside I strangely found Harry Hill quite funny! Mr Meecher was very exciting for me, especially the final panel, I'll leave you to figure out why. (Also to all who know already, your clues are Terry and different to the rest.)

George VS Dragon was brilliant as usual, Panel 6 was the best! The Madvertisement seemed a bit of a waste of a page really, they're not as funny any more either...

Loved 99 Genius Homework Excuses, No. 31 was brilliant! Watch this Space was... interesting... not too sure what it was about but still, I like Nick's artwork. Go Compare was good, not a lot more to say about that one. Turtle Wipeout was also very good.

Pre-Skool Prime Minister definitely wins Funniest Strip Award! Every single bit just made me chuckle and even snigger! Rocky's Horror Show was pretty good, not as funny but still good. Bananaman had a good joke behind it, I just hope he's not one page again from now on!

Deal or Ordeal was actually quite funny. That was, until the end. Little Dermot was very funny and the best bit was, you didn't need to get any references! I love how Dermot's choice of words are quite disturbing, good work to whoever wrote that, certainly made me chuckle.

My Own Genie was funny as well but I just find that I miss out on laughs because I've read it before and not that long ago either...

Ray Fears was pretty good, nice seeing more from Steve Beckett, I love his style. Andy Fanton made me laugh with a very funny Dave the Squirrel, the strip also has a fair, educational point. Are you Ready for the Question, Noel? was... different... I'm surprised that joke was allowed what with all the political correctness going on nowadays...

Korky was very good, well done to Phil Corbett for not only coming up with a clever story but also for the extra effort for making some of the boxes fit into a Korky shape, brilliant!

Postman Prat was very funny as well, also is the bit where Postman Prat jumps the bridge based off the story about the bus driver who famously jumped the bridge and only earnt £10 for his heroic deed? (I remember it also appearing on the Eagle comic in something like 'Did it Really Happen?' (thanks to Lew's blog for that one!))

The Bogies was funny, I honestly think Nigel is a natural when it comes to comedy! Nuke Noodle was brilliantly stupid, I loved all the talk about meringues (what an odd choice!), also love the chicken/crow joke!

Igg and Ook was interesting, didn't really find it that funny... Knock, Knock! was just plain boring as usual and Jibber and Steve was utterly random and nutty (which is why I love it so much!)

Desperate Dan was also really funny, Jamie's Dan is fantastic! (Maybe to keep all the people wanting the old Dan back they could have a one page 'Classic Dan' reprinting old Dan's drawn by Dudley D Watkins)

A great issue, only one question though; why change the order in which the mini strips all appeared in? 99 Genius Homework Excuses was the only mini strip which appeared in the same place! Crazy!

Harry hill is just boring recently. Little Dermot and Postman Prat were my favourite strips this week!

Hiya, good review there. Thanks for your thoughts. Just thought I'd add in, I am one of the people who would love to see a change to Dan, but in all honesty, I do enjoy the strips. The stories are always good, I just don't like how he looks now. When I said in my previous post about 'going back to an older style' I just meant a more realistic look more like how he (and other characters) look on the cover of this years annual (and recent ones too).
Also, would love the idea of a classic page, but maybe they could do it like the Beano's retro page, where they can have a different character each week.

Also I see what you mean, many people do miss the old Dan it seems, maybe Classic Dan would work whether it be new stories drawn by Nigel Parkinson perhaps in the annual style he did or DDW reprints possibly coloured in. I see no problem personally with Jamie's Dan and find the stories are good fun, I can see why people don't like it though.

Ah, I see... Good artwork for it, I just thought it looked a tad creepy and unsuitable for a front cover picture due to the dark colours.

OK, as I said on the Beano page, it's that time of week again, it's Wednesday, it comic day!! So, I've been out, bought my comics, read them. I enjoyed the comics, but the extra money wasn't really worth it. But onto this weeks Dandy...
Harry Hill, as usual, was nothing special. A few laughs here and there from a few terrible old jokes, a plot that seemed to go from one thing to another.
The 12 short strips are not a favourite of mine, but you do get the occasional funny moment from them; 99 Genius Homework Excuses is often quite good.
Pre-school prime minister was good this week. I liked seeing the former deputy prime minister getting irate at finding that a hamster has just replaced him in his job (who wouldn't?) and then ending up being the one to save the world! A good ending where the whole world declares war, but changes their mind as they can't attack a fluffy hamster!
A good idea having genie's talent being discovered for My Own Genie' and him going off and becoming famous (but not for long).
Postman Prat had a good idea this week. To receive your post, you have to order a pizza nowadays. Of course, noone liked this idea and so Prat ended with some unhappy customers.
I thought it was good to see the back page being used for a comic strip again rather than the celebrix.

All in all, a good issue but, as I've said, it's a pain to pay extra for something I didn't really want. What were your thoughts then guys n gals?

As I have stated previously somewhere on this forum I agree that the price shouldn't keep going up to £2.50 every few weeks as it can be a bit off putting. However having said that we might not want the free gifts but the target audience which is children definitely will as it makes the comic seem even more appealing to them.

I do agree that it looks better with Desperate Dan on the back page, if we can't have a comic strip on the front let's at least have on on the back.

Very true. I agree that we shouldn't have to pay for them though. You can't call them free gifts any more.

That's why they don't call them free gifts any more, if you look at the comic.

I almost bought the Beano and Dandy yesterday for the first time in ages but when I saw it was a fiver the pair I dropped them like hot bricks. You could get them both for tanner in 1967! I'll look at tomorrow's issues and if they are only 30 bob apiece i'll snap them up.
