What comics did you buy today?

I picked up Smash no. 4 for a fiver at the ephemera fair yesterday and chatted to Robert Opie. He collects first issues of comics apparently.

One of my favourite Leo Baxendale covers on that. First Man From BUNGLE. Good price!

The dealer, Jon, had almost every issue of TV Century 21 I was leafing through them when I found the Smash! among them. Lucky really as I have every tv21 except issue 1 so had no reason to look through them. The next fair is a pulp and paperback special so expect more comics.

5 buster annuals.the 78 one has a Marney the fox strip.I wonder if these annual stories will be reprinted in the upcoming reprint graphic novel.

No, the book covers all the weekly strips but no annual ones. (There are no extras in the book such as covers etc.)

It's a lovely looking 8 page story and does look like stokes but i'm not very good at identifying artists so can't say for sure.i tried to upload a few pages for others to identify,but it wouldn't let me,saying file was too big and i cant get the size down.there's no marney strip in 77 annual and i don't have 79 to check but surely rebellion could have squeezed this story in to make the book complete.But i dont have the holiday specials from this time either so can't check those.
Also is the cover of forthcoming book brand new artwork or from an old buster cover?

It's brand new by John Stokes, and he's also written the foreword.

Could the annual strip have been a reprint perhaps?

Ill check when the book arrives hopefully this week as i cant go unbagging all the busters from that period im gutted the bookplate edition has sold out already.

My weekly trip to Deptford flea market saw me procuring eight annuals for £1 apiece. Dandy Book 1963, Beano Book 1958, first Beezer Book, the second TV Comic annual and Tiger annuals for 1957, 58, 59 and 65. Beezer has no spine but the Tiger annuals are all very good indeed.

Off to Bloomsbury shortly for the comic fair.

Douglas Way SE8. The flea market is there on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. Deptford BR station is about fifty yards sway.

Two modern comics I'm afraid - Marvel Legends and Avengers Universe.

I particularly liked the strips from Marvel Legends including Captain America and his Hydra storyline. So much so that I bought The Road to Secret Empire.

received 104 mid 90's busters but only needed 3 and quite a few had the free gifts milkshake badges etc so am v happy lol. but thought id take a gamble as i only needed 7 in total so the hunt is on for the elusive 4 ,they seem very hard to come by but i know the print runs were very small in late 90's.

Yes, I used to have a couple of copies saved for me at a local newsagent as most shops had stopped having it by then. (We didn't get freebies from Fleetway, yet we did for Sonic the Comic.)
