The irony present throughout Top Gear (a bunch of sad old blokes talking about 'what's cool' for instance) will be completely lost on kids, whereas the nasty bullying selfish element (done as a joke but a bit too subtle for kids) won't be.

I'll be very disappointed if that's confirmed.
You honestly think kids don't get Top Gear? That all the stunts and non-car-related stuff they do is for adults? It's one of the top family shows on TV, so I wouldn't agree on that one.

No.

also is it an adult character?
I'm pleased to say that yes, the character is an adult and not the usual naughty kid type.

Whether he behaves like an adult is open to opinion.

As for my other new strip... only a couple of days to go before you see those two characters. They're not the usual naughty kid types either.

No more spoilers. :shhh:

That won't stop Digital Spy repeating it:

and adding:

"Publisher DC Thomson has also confirmed that Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson will appear on the cover of a future issue."
Nothing new there, DS never check their facts... but Clarkson's appearance could just be in the same manner that Ben 10 was on last week's Beano cover (small photo in the corner advertising a competition). And it wasn't confirmed by DCT (at least they put Thomson this time!)

Are people complaining about someone trying to promote a comic by running stories about it? No matter that the facts are wrong, what would you prefer? That people continue to ignore the stupid bloody Dandy like they do the rest of the year?

There's only one thing worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about. If I could get the press to run the story that the new Dandy will contain free viagra on the front cover and that every issue will be personally delivered to your door by Harry bloody Hill who'll do a personal re-enactment of his "Fight" routine on your front lawn, then I would run that story if it meant people would print it.

If there's anyone who knows the value of getting free publicity from a spurious story it's Harry Hill (or rather his agents & TV production company Avalon). He has a book & CD coming out, so they have run these stories, all picked up by comedy site Chortle and most also run by the tabloids, in the last month:

http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2010/09/2 ... s_cd_title
- The Beatles block the title of Harry Hill's new album. A wholly unlikely story, unsupportable by copyright law.

http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2010/10/0 ... ny_anymore
- The Smiths stop Harry Hill covering their song, another unlikely story, indefensible under copyright law

http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2010/09/2 ... _that_tune
- The nonsense Beatles story again, repackaged and rerun a week later

http://www.chortle.co.uk/0/2010/10/10/1 ... it_tv_burp
- Hill has conversation with agent, nothing changes, headline news.

http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2010/03/1 ... ew_tv_deal
- Hill has meeting with ITV, nothing changes, headline news

http://www.chortle.co.uk/0/2010/10/11/1 ... ernet_show
- Hill launches internet show. So? My cat has an internet show, it's hardly headline news. Unless you're Harry Hill's agent.

There you go. Harry Hill's company knows the value of publicity and will milk any non-story for every inch of mileage they can get. Since they have chosen to not mention The Dandy relaunch, it would be wise to conclude that Harry Hill has nothing at all to do with the Dandy relaunch or has deemed it to be of no publicity value.

Or it could be that news is embargoed until today.

Nigel's blog is the one to watch on this topic. I'll be talking about my two new strips tomorrow, when The Dandy is out.

Returning to the subject of how brilliant The Dandy actually is (which we want the world to know), I just indulged in this whole blog-full of Jamie Smart's Desperate Dan strips: http://www.fumboo.com/despdan/

They are brilliant. I confess I've hardly seen any of them because you could never thumb through Dandy Extreme in a shop because of its plastic bag, and Dan was never visible on the cover. If these were collected into a book it would be massive. (I mean sales wise, obviously).

I hope Dan (or anything else as exceptionally brilliant as these strips) is on the front cover of the new Dandy and that it is not obscured by free gifts in a big plastic bag.

Fingers remaining crossed.

Good question. Is anyone doing creator owned material or is it all work-for-hire on DCT characters?

And why can't I just wait a day and find out tomorrow?

PS: Ooh, look, picture of Harry Hill reading the Dandy: http://nigelparkinsoncartoons.blogspot. ... omics.html

Don't know. In my case both strips were created by Dandy editorial. I designed the look of the characters but I'm ok with Thomson's owning the rights. I write one of the strips and a staff writer does the other.

No Derek the Troll I'm afriad but he WILL return in a self-published comic in 2011, - if I find the time.

The new-look cover... I LOVE IT!

And do I spy Korky the Cat (drawn by Jamie Smart) on the front too? Nice!
