The annuals have their own thread in General comics discussion, but thanks for the heads up, as when I last looked they had some of last year's annuals (not Beano and Dandy though) still in stock, priced at 99p, alongside the Oor Wullie annual from two years ago.

Thanks Nigel for the heads-up - also thanks, AndyB, sounds interesting although I still have mixed views. I can't wait to see Brighty's Gnasher's Bite though!

BeanoMAX is out already, just picked up issue 68. It has a two part feature story called Dennis and Gnasher Adventures, which despite the name also features Minnie, the Bash Street Kids, Roger, Ball Boy, and Fred('s Bed).

As long as Dennis and Gnasher are on CBBC, they have a very important marketing ploy due to the tie-in. You can almost assume that any all-stars strips will play on Dennis's role, because DCT are correctly advertising that the Beano and Beano Max both feature characters from two or three TV shows.

That won't stop anytime soon then as there is a new series of Dennis coming to CBBC in the next couple of years.

Does anyone know if the price is still £1.50 for the weekly beano or has it gone up? I hope Nigel is back drawing Dennis the menace and gnasher every week for the beano!

Yes, it's still £1.50, which pleased me, even though I'm a subscriber.

Glad to hear it. They could've easily used the revamp as an excuse for a stealthy price rise.

Well I've picked up my Beano this morning along with The Dandy and I liked the changes that had been made (Dennis and Roger). I wonder if more are to come in the Dennis strip though with his parents being taken for a makeover by Gok Wan. I find it strange though that Rogers Dad has. Now been made to appear younger but was still around before video games.

Golden Tickets can now be redeemed - and there are other prizes not shown in the comic. Also, everybody gets three months of Beanos to read on a PC, there's only so many of the other prizes (it's the next three months by the way, page says it's a digital sub - however, I'm getting a
404 message when I try to claim it).
Also, good news, no upper age limit!

I think the new cover is a great positive move, the previous cover design was uninspiring, it stood out on the shelf. Great positive is NP doing Dennis I love his style & certainly looks more traditional, also the return of the menace tag is also positive would like to see it as the masthead on the strip as well.
The next change for me would be a makeover inside a return of the Dennis the Menace fan club & letter page also some strips are looking tired now, Would like to see an artist change to The Numskulls Jamie smart would be great. Also some new strips & maybe a couple of old classics out of retirement.

My son also entered his code and all he got was the digital sub*. He had no expectations anyhow ('everyone's a winner!' is a phrase that is often used humorously in our house). Still, a dozen weekly pages wasted on this cynical crock does tend to rankle a bit. It's only one step away from those simp-baiting
Congratulations! leaflets that litter the magazine aisles in WHSmiths. Sometimes it feels like the marketing dept. have too much control over the comic.
*and he also got the 404 page when trying to enter his details. Very poor.

"All he got was the digital sub" which is still worth around £8-9.00.
If someone walked up to you in the middle of the street and offered you nearly a tenner, in your hand, for doing absolutely nothing, would you take it?

There is no comparison in light of the wasted pages, the cynicism, the 404 and the fact he already subscribes...
Why am I answering this troll?
Got to add, my son still loves The Beano, for better or worse.

Yeah, the digital subscription prize is almost worthless to existing readers. It won't stop me buying the comic, because I prefer a hard copy anyway, but this is definitely a risky strategy, they could get people (non-subscribers, particularly anyone who tosses them in the recycling when finished with) stop buying the comic for the three months because they'll have the digital version to read anyway. The fact that the claim page isn't working, and the fact that the Project Menace website (
http://www.redandblackisback.com) isn't online yet either, means they haven't done enough planning. Disappointing, to say the least.

Wrong. Minnie is a reprint as well. One of the first ones Ken did. Speech bubbles give it away, plus the art is slightly different.
