Well I eventually managed to pick up a copy of "Dandy Extreme" - I have to admit if I was 9 years old I would love it - its well put together and looks proffesional and with 5 "free" gifts (all in the bin after I had a wee play with them - admit it you all did - enjoyed the horribly addictive sweets though ). However I thought the toilet humour (f*art jokes) were so over used that it became very childish (even for a kids comic) - the photo of the boy licking chocolate etc was not the best idea but thats the kind of humour kids that age crack up about in the playground. Like Lew I thought Capt Hookless was fresh and Cuddle and Dimples was really nicely drawn (more fart jokes though and again kids love that) but for me (an old f*art) the main character (forgot his name) and Agent Dog 2 Zero were drawn in that awful style (again modern and kids like it but lacks any depth for me) - my favourite strip was the one about the Bear (was that by the lad that draws "a Man Called Horace" and "Beau Peep"?) that art was really strong and funny (and more my style as relates to my age group) Bannanaman was errr bland (why wasn't Mr Bright drawing that) and Dan, although a classic, was not Dudleys best - would have been nice to see a coloured version - all in all for a kid brilliant, for a parent they would probably be worried at their kids reading it and for me, well Im over 40 and have no children so what does it matter but as a comic fan I hated it (so its gotta be good for the kids and thats the way it should be) .

Yep Cap, the bear strip was drawn by Andrew 'Beau Peep' Christine.

And written by the other half of the Beau Peep team, Roger Kettle.

Well. the early ones were at least, though not all of them. I think he'd like me to point that out.

At least it dates to before anyone likely to be reading the comic was born, or at least likely to have read it (how many actual Dandy readers were alive during WWII?) - makes a change for the non-core audience to be new to a strip!

Wow priced outta the market for being good!!!!? - pretty silly that as I would imagine (no ofence to the artist that drew the strip) you would attract more readers in the long run - doesn't add up really Your the Neal Adams of UK comics (I work in 70's references only I'm afraid)

Thanks, Cap, but my abilities or otherwise had nothing to do with it. Just that reprints are cheaper.

I hope Neal Adam's doesn't sue you.

Without making this the "Steve Bright Appreciation Thread", I gotta say my two boys were disappointed with the lack of Beryl this week... and I'll highlight the fact that this is due to Steve's art as when Karl Dixon was drawing it previously they didn't give two hoots when it finished (no offence to Karl of course)....

Hopefully Mr Graham (esteemed Dandy ed), may occasion upon this humble forum, and have an office whipround for a bit more Stevie Bright in the future..

I'll lob in 3.5p, a sticky sweet and a shirt button if it helps !

Let me be quite clear though, my departure from the Dandy had nothing to do with me refusing to work for the money I was being paid. It was not my choice to go. I was simply replaced by a cheaper option. The company own over a quarter of a century's worth of Bananaman stock to choose from, most of which was drawn by superb artists. It costs a few quid less to use those pages than get new ones created, so...

Tolworthy, I fear you may be hearing from John Byrne's lawyers...and possibly my own.

yeah, but for Bananaman, whose reprints? I don't recall anyone other than John Geering, Barrie Appleby, Tom Paterson and Steve in its 25 year run.

another young reader not liking the changes on the Dandy website.....good I say....lets hope there is a rethink....

Paul I like the idea of black and white to save the comic money...rather then getting rid of comic artists...if the black and white is mixed in with the colour....maybe go back to cheap paper and reduced price...?!

the Beano was nice to read....the best written story in the comic is Derek the Sheep.....I like fresh original ideas.........loved the ending in the hive...

I'm going to miss a weekly 'comic throughout' Dandy...

the articles in Beanomax are much better and there are more comic

Steve Bright can you squeeze some more top artists in Wallace and Gromit ...Nick drawing Wallace would be funny in his Blinky style
