The edition of Blue Peter to air on February 13th is scheduled to carry a piece about the Beano comic. Konnie Huq visited the Beano offices a few weeks ago to meet, among others, the great David Sutherland.

There's a Blue Peter on CBBC (satellite channel) 8.30 tomorrow morning, so I'm hoping it's that!

the new character will be staying rather than a one off which I think is brave...

maybe Teddy (boy) will make a come back if none of the ideas are any good..

We also saw the other presenters dressing up as kids for the latest Blue Peter competion on creating a new charather for the Bash Street Kids.

In the history of Blue Peter, Has there been any features on the Beano, Dandy or others?

Doh. I overslept and missed it AGAIN!

On a positive note I did manage to find a copy of last week's Dandy, (but not in my home town which seems to have given up on it). Interesting that the new editor is making his mark on it now; new stories, new design. Amazed there was no ad for BeanoMAX though! The days of four-page promos are definitely long gone.

I remember for the Dandy's 60th, 2 people dressed up as Korky and Desperate Dan represented this weird interview where one of the presenters asked them questions and they held up speech bubbles in reply.

Missed it, was working - is this a permanent character or just a one off appearence?

That's good because it'll make it difficult for them to shove in reprints (as readers would notice the new character wasn't there).

The new BeanoMax has, as you would expect, been getting a lot of coverage in Scotland, the BBC NEWs website (Scotland) section has an article on this and a link the the BBC Scotland News article on the comic with Euan Kerr if anyone is intersted (it was done in Dundee so some strong accents for those that find this difficult)

The problem with BeanoMAX claiming it's for an older reader is that the media immediately label it "adult Beano" (as in that news item). So it's a sales gimmick that's not going to work because the mag is clearly aimed at kids!

Indeed, Lew - that was a quite ludicrous piece of journalism by ex-DCT reporter 'Scoop' Grant. If I'd been one of those students, I'd have fired my catty at him...if I was Euan Kerr, I'd have done far worse.
