Complete Runs + Specials + Annuals

Post by reker1701 »

Hi Everyone!

I know there has been a lengthy debate, really interesting reading too, about the collections and full runs people have. I have a number of full runs. Just wondered if there was anywhere that gave "an easy to understand and interpret list" of how many of a given comic / magazine were actually released.

For example I know I have

All 54 issues of the Crunch, also
All 130 issues of the Buddy

I have no idea if there are any specials / annuals. Have used the obvious sources the comics themselves for data etc.

I have all 22 issues of Starlord, All three annuals 80, 81 and 82 + what I believe is the only summer / holiday special dated 1979. The annoying thing is I don't know for sure.

Would love to know about other classics like Victor, Warlord, Beano, Dandy, Whizzer and Chips, Nutty the list is pretty much endless. What do other people think?

What I would like to know is when did they start / finish (if they have finished), and what annuals and specials were released.

Hope I am not the only one who would like to know this info, if I am I will go back to my padded room with "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" being continuously piped through the walls.

Cheers

There is an Annuals and Specials section in this website.

The Annuals is very nearly complete, the specials not so(I will send you them Al-promise).

Crunch and Buddy did not have any specials. And you are complete with the Starlords

Hi Reker, If you want any specific details of Thomson material just let me know and I'll post reply here. Similarly could probably help with details of most AP/Fleetway/IPC titles too.

As Brian has already said, there is a very comprehensive list of Annuals and Summer Specials on the site. The URL is http://www.comicsuk.co.uk/Specials/Spec ... stTime=Yes

Also as an addendum, there is one more Victor Summer Special (1992) that Al has not got on the site so far. Here is a image plucked from ebay seller andy_mc2

As to the comprehensive list of all publications pertaining to each title, then we will have to wait until Kashgar does a Lofts and prints a hefty tome that we can all line up and buy!

As well as this site, try comicspriceguide.com for details on how long many series ran for togther with start/end years, although many missing many of the specials and annuals from the listings most weekly issues are listed.

Well that's the thing isn't it? :? A lot of sites list stuff which is (like this instance) seemingly copied whole from publications like Duncan McAlpine's Comic Price Guides without the minutae of collectorship trivia. Flicking through Comicspriceguide.com, it was quite obvious in some cases they are not aware some UK comics missed issues or had unusual numbering/dating owing to, for instance, strikes in the 1970s...

Do they take into account the skipped issues of UK comics in the 1940's due to paper rationing?

If there are errors I must take some blame as I have been helping them with their listings  Hopefully there will not be too many errors. Their Marvel UK listings should be particularly comprehensive.

Congrats on the fully Buddy set BTW. I have still not managed that one after almost 25 years of collecting the series.

What's the best way to get in touch with them if you spot errors or omissions from their site?

I assume they need some sort of proof that a title exists rather than just taking my word for it! After all, I might just be some nutter inventing comcis titles to. I mean I'm not, but they don't know that.

Any guidance gratefully received.

If we can't influence them then I'd be in favour of some sort of listing by title facility on this site where people could contribute what they know abotu a title.

Just had a good root through the annuals & specials section. Learn't about a few things I didn't know existed. Especially the Revolver Special, will definately be on the look out for that one.

One question, when looking at the section for specials for 2000AD I was surprised it wasn't complete. Missing the covers for 5 of the Winter Specials and 4 of the summer ones. If I can dig out these comics, as I am sure I have them all, who do I send these too.

Also I have the Rogue Trooper Annual, would a scan of that be of any use?

Can someone let me know please?

I seem to recall some of the TV21 and Thunderbirds related annuals/specials are out of whack and missing scans too...

Can provide info and scans too if Al wants them...

Kim Stevens, my co-producer at GACCH, also emailed Al some time ago, to correct him that there were 204 issues of 'Lady Penelope/Penelope', not 203! This myth has arisen because Colindale is missing the last issue from its bound volumes... but Kim managed to obtain a copy.
