Comix Zone
Looking through an old copy of ?Retro Gamer? I came across an article about a Mega Drive game called ?Comix Zone.? It was written by Sega and involved the lead character called Sketch Turner who became trapped in his own comic. Needless to say, this gave me nightmares. I could just imagine myself ending up in one of my Commando stories. One minute you?re sitting in front of the Mac, the sun is shining and the birds are singing outside, and the next you?re standing in a trench with bullets flying overhead and whizz-bangs landing a few feet away. And you can?t move because there?s a hole in the duckboards and your ammo boots are stuck firmly in the mud. Or, worse still, the decomposed corpse of some Poilu, (you know he?s a Frenchie ?cos he smells of garlic.) Anyway, I digress. Apparently Comix Zone featured the player being able to move within adjacent panels of the comic. I just wondered if anyone else had heard of this game ? and even played it. Finally, did any comic characters actually make it into computer games? I?m sure they did, but I can?t think of any offhand.

Tom Thug??? What game was that Lew?? I heard rumours that Jack The Nipper was supposed to be a Sweeney Toddler video game but they couldn't get the rights. The non player characters look VERY Tom Paterson with characters that look like Sweeney's Dad & Henry Dog. Could just be a rumour though, but it's a bit of a coincedence...Lew Stringer wrote:Corporal Clott wrote:Finally, did any comic characters actually make it into computer games? Twenty years ago when computer games were in their infancy there was an Oink! game for the Spectrum. It featured Tom Thug, Pete and his Pimple, and Rubbishman. Very crude animation by all accounts, and it changed the basic concept of Tom Thug which annoyed me a bit. I never even had a copy of the game sent to me. Not that I'd be able to play it as I didn't own a Spectrum. (Didn't own a computer until 1999!)
