Comics UK

Just thought I'd ask fellow forumites which, if any, current British comic titles they still buy on a regular basis. In my case it is basically down to the D C Thomson comic output i.e Dandy, Beano, Dandy Fun-size, Beano Fun-size, Beano Max, Classics from the Comics and the Sunday Post, which I include here as I only buy it for the Broons and Oor Wullie. Other than this I still also purchase all the associated annuals and specials of the above and that is about it.
I realise this may come across as an ever so slightly blinkered, not to say xenophobic list, if you can be such a thing when it comes to your comic tastes, but I'm sure others are supporting Toxic and 2000AD.

Still a Megazine fan and I still pick up the odd Commando when I see them. Still enjoy them after all these years!

Dandy, Beano, BeanoMAX, Toxic, Wallace & Gromit, 2000AD, Judge Dredd, Doctor Who Magazine, Classics from the Comics, Spaceship Away, Thrud the Barbarian (which admittedly is published VERY irregularly), plus lots of others on a semi-regular basis. Not just for entertainment, but to see what my peers are doing and to keep up with the industry.

As far as UK editions of US comics are concerned: most of the Panini and Titan comics, with the exception of X-Men and Wolverine. (I've never understood the ongoing appeal of X-Men. Okay, it's a metaphor for bigotry; we get it! You're preaching to the converted! Don't drone on about it for 40 years. )

None regularly only the odd copy of the Judge Dredd Megazine and Classics (tho not bought it in a while now) - pick up more of the Panini Marvels (Spiderman and Avengers most months and occassionally the Mighty WOrld of Marvel and Wolverine - great value) a few UK independents like Thrudd the Barbarian (brilliant stuff altho' as Lew states its not published very often) and if it counts as British "Jack Staff"

Beano ...Dandy (hurry back Jamie..though love Cuddles and Dimples)...Beanomax (enjoying this...) Classics...Dr Who magazine..
Superman legends...sometimes buy Dvd Mags or Film mags..

I buy Heavy Metal now and again,because I'm a big fan of the movie.I do dip into 2000ad occasionally,but that's about it for me.I really am not a fan of the children's titles..Beezer was the only one for me.Until they invent time travel that's really all there is in comics shops today.

I can remember the size of the original artwork for the beezer and Topper it was huge i thought that was a great comic. i remember dick millington's art work he would bring in it was big.

You worked for DC Thomson as well as Martspress? Which strips did Dick Millington do for them?

I can't remember of hand what the strip was millington did it was in the early 70's also Tom Hurst did stuff for D C Thomson they would be pencils that would be sent up to scotland for checking then sent back for any alterations to tom then he would go ahead with the inking thinking back tom hurst did a strip for martspress about an alien who needed heat to survive i think it was called heatmaster.

I regularly buy 2000ad, the Megazine, Doctor Who monthly, Commando's (whenever I can find them - they truly are the Scarlet Pimpernel of the comics world!), Classics from the Comics, Mighty World of Marvel, Marvel Legends (both from Panini), Batman Legends, Justice League Legends (both Titan) for myself...

For the kids (yeh right!) who are boys age 7 and 9, I buy The Beano, The Dandy, BeanoMax, Doctor Who Adventures and Fun-Size Beano and Dandys...

I occasionally try them on others like Toxic etc but they just don't get into them..

And, fyi, if there were more anthology comics available I would buy them for them as well ...!

They really enjoyed both Billy the Cat and Winker Watson when they were in The Beano and Dandy respectively - I know they would like an 'adventure' style weekly -- they were always saying "Can't wait to see what happens next week!" ... loved the cliff-hangers and the depth that the stories had.... On that line, they also enjoy Kev's strips he does in The Beano for the same reasons, the plot and the continuity...

Can my 2 kids REALLY be in that much of a minority??
