Help! Missing Lucky Charm issues!
I was wondering if anybody out there in Comics UK land could help me. Over the past few months, thanks to ebay and the specialist auctions site I have managed to acquire 27 of the 30 issues of Lucky Charm comics. I need to find no 14 - Pavement Ballerina; no 17 - Little Miss Frozen Face and no 20 - The Taming of Teresa to complete the set. If anyone has these they would like to sell or knows where they might be obtained, please let me know!

how about a forum for girl's comics as a category on the site?

Hi Richard - when you say Lucky Charm listing, do you mean you'd like a complete list of all 30 Lucky Charm comics?

Re: Help! Missing Lucky Charm issues!
Just an update on my missing Lucky Charm issues!! I've managed to acquire issues 17 and 20 ("Little Miss Frozen Face" and "The Taming Of Teresa"), but I still need no 14 "Pavement Ballerina" to complete the set. If any one knows where I would be able to get a copy from or has one to sell, please let me know!!
Thanx!!

Re: Help! Missing Lucky Charm issues!
I aways wondered what Lucky Charm was all about, unless I've missed it somewhere it looks like a girls 'Red Dagger'

Just seen what phoenix4ever posted on Re: Looking for Judy comics from the early 80s...thread with the Lucky Charm scan.

Re: Help! Missing Lucky Charm issues!
Interesting that the issue 4 in the scan has major rusty staples problems and my copy has exactly the same problem even though I have owned it since new and the other comics it's been stored with for the last 29 years show no signs of rust.

Re: Help! Missing Lucky Charm issues!
So has my copy and, interestingly, so has Sniper, the equivalent number 4 in my Red Dagger collection. I don't know why this should be the case but it may not be entirely coincidental that in each instance the number 4 issue was the first one in the set where Thomsons used staples. The first three in both sets had a 'squared off' spine like a book, and glue was used to bind the pages. Collectors of most Thomsons' titles for boys and girls from the first issue of Adventure in 1921 bless the company for always using glue. The only exceptions that I can think of off hand were the photogravure titles Scoop, and Bunty when it went the same way in 1989.Earl wrote:Interesting that the issue 4 in the scan has major rusty staples problems and my copy has exactly the same problem even though I have owned it since new and the other comics it's been stored with for the last 29 years show no signs of rust.
Re: Help! Missing Lucky Charm issues!
Diana was always stapled as was Jackie and, as they were in the same format, so were the summer specials from their inauguration in 1963. The nursery titles Bimbo, Twinkle, Little Star and Magic also always used staples for binding. The only regular comic to do so that I can think of was Plug. Offhand I'm certain that one of the later girl's titles was stapled too but I can't bring its name to mind. Fairyland Tales in the 1930's was also stapled.
Re: Help! Missing Lucky Charm issues!
Thank you, Kashgar, for reminding me about Diana. As you know, I do have a significant collection of that title and I should have remembered it. However, I didn't bother to check because my principal focus in that post was on the similarity of Thomsons' procedure with Red Dagger and Lucky Charm. If I had, I might also have mentioned Patches and Suzy. Regarding my ability to comment on the other titles you mention, my collection contains two issues of Jackie, plus one Bimbo, one Twinkle and one Lucky Star, just as examples of relatively recent nursery titles, clearly too few on which to base any assertions. I wouldn't pay the prohibitive prices being asked for issues of Magic, so I don't have any, Fairyland Tales and summer specials don't really interest me and Plug, being a modern comic, would probably not get across the threshhold.Kashgar wrote:Diana was always stapled as was Jackie and, as they were in the same format, so were the summer specials from their inauguration in 1963. Re: Help! Missing Lucky Charm issues!
BTW when I was referring to Magic being stapled I was referring to the 1976 incarnation not the 1939 one which used glue for binding. I only mention this because of your 'prohibitive prices' comment re Magic which I can't think can have been intended to refer to the second outing for the title.
It was Suzy which was the title that wouldn't come readily to mind in my last post so thanks for jogging the old brain cells re that one. Come to think of it TOPS/TV Tops was also a stapled title.

Re: Help! Missing Lucky Charm issues!
Also, the 30s Magic wasn't a nursery title, but it was aimed at a younger audience than Beano and Dandy, like Beezer and Topper were in the 50s, and Sparky would be in the 60s.
