I see that some old annuals and comics were "Dandy Monster Comic".

What era was the term "Monster" used, and what were DCT trying to imply with this? Just that it was 'big'?

Yes, it just meant the annuals where a "bigger" comic.

Dandy didn't incorporate some short-lived obscure comic called Monster! (though the Beano did incorporate Magic and they had joint annuals in the early 40's)

The Beano never merged with Magic, just the annual.

Oh OK, i'm supposing Magic ended in "Graveyard week" in 1940? which would account for the continuing of the name in annual form (in a fashion). I wonder if that was the 'start' of the tradition of publishing annuals after a weekly comic had ceased (actually had Chatterbox died out in 1936, when the annuals shrunk to about half the size and featured only stories?)

The dandy monster comic ran from 1939 to 1952 when it became the dandy book in 1953 it was called a monster comic due to its bulky size due to the poor cardboard like paper they used in the early annuals
