Nice selection so far folks! I've never seen those.
My final gallery of covers is now on my blog, up to date with this year's editions:

Lindy? never heard of that one.
Anyway, i contributed my own blog entry, with some storypapers! However blurred photos are the order of the day as most of the ones i had to hand are in bound volumes. I could scan the various 70's and 80's Victors if there is much call for it, perhaps i'll post those on Christmas day. I'm not going to be doing much else!

Here are front and back covers of the 1960 Christmas edition of The New Hotspur I recently bought on ebay as part of a joblot from the early 60s. I wonder who the artist was?

Bill Ritchie on the front, and I think Ken Reid (from the teacher's face) on the back.

That's not Ken Reid's work.
Looks more like Bob McGrath but I could well be mistaken.

Come to think of it, now I look at the other characters, you're right, Lew. The teacher handing over the report card is very Kenish for all that.

The New Hotspur was what the Hotspur was retitled when it became a picture strip weekly in Oct 1959. It's numbering beginning again from No1 after 1197 issues as a story paper. Then, once established in this new format it dropped the 'New' from the title after No 173 and just became plain old Hotspur again. ( I'm being lazy here and recalling these details from memory rather than looking them up so if I've goofed anywhere someone please feel free to point it out).

I don't suppose you've got that issue handy so you can post the back cover?

I can confirm that your memory is as good as ever, Kashgar, although interestingly enough, the words
The New Hotspur were still used on the rear cover of issue 174.
