Which Annuals Did You Buy?

Went to Waterstones in Manchester Deansgate on Boxing Day (despite the fact it wasn closed on Boxing Day last year - fortunately, it was open).
I got The Dandy Annual, The Beano Annual, The Beano And The Dandy Comics In The Classroom, The Bash Street Kids, Dennis The Menace Annual, The Broons And Oor Wullie Happy Days 1936-1969 all for £1.50 each (were 99p each last year at the same store - but it still wasn't bad). But the Oor Wullie book was sold out, but I remembered WHSmiths had a load in stock before Christmas. It was still in stock there and reduced to £1.99.
So I managed to get every annual I wanted for the first time this year (I could get them earlier at full price, but as you can see, I like too many annuals, and it would have cost me over £50 and there was Christmas to pay for - although today, a 66/1 horse paid for that!).
So what annuals did you buy? Did you manage to get everything you wanted? Did you get any for Christmas?

I got all of the above today in Waterstones Kendal today, for £1.50 each, except for the Bash Street Kids annual- which I haven't actually seen anywhere this year.
Still, not bad at all, eh? Why buy before Christmas....? Unless of course you've got kids expecting them on Christmas morn....

Waterstones tend to put the annuals in different places: some downstairs on the ground floor, and some upstairs in the Childrens Section. If you live near them, next time you're in, ask them if they've still got it. Try Woolworths too before it closes for good. Or WHSmith or your local newsagents. When I was younger, I used to get all my annuals for 99p after Christmas from my local newsagents.
For those that have kids, Waterstones usually has them buy one get one free on Christmas Eve (could be earlier, but I'm not sure).

My WATERSTONES had only the regular 'BEANO/DANDY' books [which I'm not particularly interested in]: the REAL booty [WATKINS 'WULLIE/BROONS' reprints, 'COMICS in the CLASSROOM'] were totally sold out before Christmas.......no doubt I'll track 'em dahn eventually, however....
------on a brighter note, on Christmas Day itself I unwrapped the mega-teriffic 'History of the BEANO' and it's an absolute stunner, a totally nostalgia-packed, highly informative, lavishly-illustrated work of total enjoyment : I understand that COMICS UK regular KASHGAR himself assisted with the history of 'BEANO' chronological notes at the book's closing: sterling work, that will help the serious 'BEANO' collector:
FANTASTIC!

I looked everywhere for the Bunty Annual for my nieces, but no sign of it.

That was on my Christmas list, but apparently Santa thought I'd been naughty this year 'cos I didn't get it

Luckily, my birthday's only a few weeks away...

My Waterstones didn't have a very good selection, only got "Dennis the Meance" and "Dr Who Story book" no Dandy's or Beano's left I went in the day the sale started so they must have sold before xmas.

you WON'T be disappointed, LAURA; this book has been put together by people who truly care about this subject.
Hopefully a 'DANDY' volume will follow, and in a perfect world, there'd be 'TOPPER' and 'BEEZER' volumes as well.

It's a shame ther isn't as big a selection of annuals as there used to be, Desperate Dan, Buster, Whizzer And Chips, Beezer, Topper etc.
But there is a shop in Shudehill that is currently selling Beezers, Beanos and other comics for 50p each. It might not be that cheap, but it is compared to the one in Piccadilly which is now beyond a joke in it's pricing. Maybe they'll have some annuals in too.

Sorry, I meant to say Shudehill. But it's still not too far from Deansgate (within walking distance). I'm not sure of the name of the shop, I'll let you know when I go there again. Think they are from the eighties, but there could be others.

Possibly Paramount Books if it's still called that? A big shop selling mostly second hand books? Mind you I think they used to charge very high prices for old comics and magazines.

It's not really a big bookshop where the comics are - is Paramount books the one that used to have surveilance equpment you could buy upstairs? I'm not sure, but it may still be called that.
The shop I went to (although I didn't actually buy any, as I didn't have time) are outside on a stand, price marked at 50p each. But it's not far from any of the Shudehill bookshops (I'm not good at directions).

Because if everyone waited until the sales there would be no more annuals in the future. Publishers can't make a profit on 99p books or suchlike. No profit = no incentive to continue.
