Intersting article in the Hull Daily Mail's entertainment supplement The Guide today. I'll post the scans of the pages shortly, as The Guide has no website, so the article isn't online. Titled "A 42,000-year love affair with comic books", it's about former Sparky, Dandy and Marvel artist and writer Tim Quinn, who is advertising an exhibition called "Argh! The Ups and Downs of Life as a Comic Book Creator", which is on Saturday June 27th at 7.30pm at ArtLink, 87 Princes Avenue, Hull.

I'm not sure that article is 100% correct. Tim worked as an editor for Marvel UK, but I'm not sure if he worked for Marvel America.

Hmm, and why did they mention The Beano - he worked for Thomson's, but not The Beano. Also the Beano and Dandy covers used are way before his time, they should've used 70s Dandy and Sparky covers instead. Or better yet, examples of his work. Oh well. The Hull Daily Mail once claimed that The Beano launched on July 29th 1938 - that's wrong too, it's either 26th (on sale) or 30th (date on cover).
Guess that paper isn't so reliable...

Heard Tim talking about his life at Seven Stories - the Centre for Children's Books, in Newcastle a few weeks ago - really nice bloke, with some really great stories.

He's back in Yorkshire again - Beverley this time:

I wouldn't be surprised if Beano is a misquote, as the previous article I posted didn't say that he did anything for that. It also says he was an editor, scriptwriter and illustrator on Desperate Dan and Beryl the Peril - scriptwriter only I suspect is the truth of it. The sentence in question should probably have been worded differently.

Private Eye does a strip about "Dave Snooty", accompanied these days by his chum "Boris The Menace", who used to have his own strip in the "HasBeano"
