British Art schools before and after the Second World War.

Hello,

I'm trying to build up a list of British Art schools based in London between 1937 and 1950 which comic artists may well have attended. I'm currently looking to write the biographies of several D.C. Thomson artists for my website www.victorhornetcomics.co.uk

And I thought that if these art schools could be identified and if they are still in business today, I might be able to find out information from the school's archives. Possibly a picture of those artists I'm interested in? Who knows? A bit of a long shot, I admit, but if you don't try...

In my experience the comic artists who went to art school are greatly outnumbered by those who didn't (though I think Frank Hampson recruited some of his Dan Dare team from a local college). When I was an art student in Manchester during the 1970s most of our tutors made it pretty clear that comic art was completely beyond the pale in their opinion, and definitely not something we should be attempting to emulate.
