The 1977 Shiver and Shake Summer Special has two reprints of the Lion Lot by Leo Baxendale renamed the Shake Squad - but in full colour! Very well done too.

Not heard of this one before, but it looks like it may have inspired Ken Harrison's The Hoot Squad in Hoot (later reprinted as The Riot Squad in The Beano) and obviously Leo had already done similar stuff before The Lion Lot, in the shape of the early Banana Bunch and Bash Street Kids strips.

Those kind of busy scenes have a long pedigree dating back at least as far as Casey Court in Illustrated Chips of the 19th Century.

I'm just pleased that whoever coloured it did so without obscuring any of Leo's fine lines. A job well done. I presume it originally appeared in black and white in Lion comic?
