On waterstones sites they have the listings (but no covers yet) for next years annuals.

Beano

Beano and Dandy Giftbook

Dandy

Oor Wullie

The Broons & Oor Wullie Classic Comic Strips from the 70s
http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesw ... s/9177515/

it's that last one that intrigues me, it'll be the first collection that doesn't concentrate on Dudley Watkins work. Itll be interesting to see because the common oppinion seems to be that the 70s weren't a classic artwork era for the strips.

The regular annuals are out 6th July, the Beano&Dandy and Broons&Oor Wullie are out 31st August

Giftbook again eh? I wonder what they'll give away this time? A facsmilie Dandy and a Bananaman DVD? (Fair is fair, it was a facsimile Beano and a Dennis and Gnasher DVD last time).

Tom Lavery drew the Broons and Oor Wullie in the 70s - I liked his work. He also drew Fred The Flop in...? (Buzz I think then Topper and Buzz).

I liked the Dennis book i felt the recent reprints werent at all too recent as I had not read Mike Pearse's Dennis' 50th birthday strip which was reprinted in full. This must have appeared in the comic in 2001 a few months before I started reading it.

I was disappointed they didnt reprint anything from the storyline where Bea was introduced.

I liked his underrated run on Roger the Dodger.

Will someone please get that "As Seen on CBBC!" off the cover of my annual? It was bad enough when the comic started doing it!

Other than that, both Beano and Dandy look better than last year's pale blue overload, and pleased to see the retro annual closer to its old format instead of pages of Dennis. The Panto Time cover is a great improvement on last year's stock art as well! And that's the first time I've seen that "Classic" branding.

Panto Time looks like a perfect fit for Mike Pearse's Christmas story from 1999. They haven't missed an excuse to reprint him yet...

Annuals always lag a couple of years behind comics (just look at the logos on the Dandy annuals from when it was being revamped every three years), so after last year's disappointing (and slimmer than ever) Beano annual, I'm hoping for something more representative of the improvements made in 2011 this year. The cover's definitely a good start - Steve Bright's second recent job for the Beano after his runaway success on the 2011 Christmas cover.

I don't like the Beano cover. The "annual 2013" text looks too obviously photoshopped on. It also just doesn't strike me as being a very memorable cover. The Dandy one, however, is fantastic. Top work, I really like it.

When I saw the Beano cover, I thought Ken Harrison. I'm now thinking NP for both...

No Pansy Potter on the front cover of the Beano annual 2013 like it says in this weeks Beano retro page maybe the cover illustration is an early draught and the one released will be different? The Dandy annual cover looks nice though.

She may be on the back cover! It looks wraparound to me.

Yeah the steet party scene will have more characters sat the table on the back cover and I'll be buying both the Dandy and Beano annuals as its a milestone in both the comics history.

Looks as the the inspiration for the Beano/Dandy panto time cover comes from the title page of he Beano book 1941
