QUESTION FOR LEW...

Hey, my question is why are you not writing any comic strips in the Dandy or Beano? I know you never have but I thought you might have tried to or something as your last work on a kids comic was before Buster started repeating strips. I think your cartooning would be good in the Dandy. It would fit your style better. =D

My last work on a kid's comic was on Buster? Hardly. Since then I've worked as a scriptwriter on Sonic the Comic, Lego Adventures, and CiTV TellyTots comics, as a writer/artist on Lucky Bag Comic, an artist on Know How magazine, and for the past few years I've written/drawn Team Toxic in Toxic comic.

With all that plus five pages a month for Sweden's Herman Hedning comic and occassional work for Viz, I haven't had time to do any more work for Thomsons. (Did some Fun-Size Dandy and Fun-Size Beano work in the past, plus artwork for the 1998, or 1999, Beano Summer Special).

Yeah, I remember now on your website or somehting saying you'd worked on Lucky Bag Comic and a few Fun Size Beanos and Dandys. I forgot, sorry. I'd never known about the others. But I really wish you would do some work in the Dandy or Beano. That would be cool.

Hi John. Some of the e-mails I sent you bounced back. Your settings appear to be wrong. For some reason your e-mail address is in the subject header, not in the "from" window.

Regarding Panini; give them time. They have a lot of comics to get out and I'm sure they have submissions all the time.

When submitting ideas to editors always send photocopies only and enclose a sae. Did you do that John?

i have done all that, but as you get older things in this business change. most of the artists and editors i knew are either dead or left to do other things,all you can do is just keep plugging away at it. most of the time you have to draw what they want, i used to work in advertising years ago, when i have drawn things ranging from a plastic toy to rupert the bear.

tv21 in those days was puplished by martspress,they allso did other magazines, i did odd little bits here and there,i did pin ups for a comic called tammy. touched up artwork on the spiderman reprints ect at the time.which was terrible,i did no strip,just one off illustrations.did a few covers for brown and watson,the persuaders,

Who edited TV21 toward the end? Alan Fennell had left by then, right? Did you move onto other IPC comics when they took over?

the company that i worked for was called martspress,the boss was leonard matthews and v.voulo.it then was took over by mr voulo and the company then was called v.v artist.they started doing more marvel re,prints, i think when i was there they had mickeys moonbugs, i loved that art. i remember ink being spilt over one of those pages. i had to touch it up.but they did other stuff as well. mr voulo passed away over 29 years ago. they still did star trek, but i allways prefered harry lindfield. dont get me wrong i also loved mike noble.

Mickey's Moonbugs was drawn by Graham Allen, who'd drawn The Nervs in Smash! before Ken Reid took over. A very underrated artist by collectors, (who sometimes mistake his work for Baxendale's, even though they're totally different) he was very versatile and also drew the Typhoon Tracy adventure strip for Tiger. Last I heard, Graham was a cartoonist for the Mail or the Express (I forget which).

yes i remember mr allen. great cartoons, i remember him on smash. his style as stuck in my mind for years.those days are gone now.i my self dont draw as much as used to, the comics today that i like are different,some good work in some, but it does nothing to spark my imagination. may be ime getting to old.
