Minnie the Minx laugh

Just reading the Beano All Stars in BeanoMax, Minnie the Minx laugh is written as 'Hyuk-Hyuk' -
Has she always had this style laugh? I don't remember it from when I was younger. I'm sure I recall another character having a Hyuk-Hyuk laugh.

I wouldn't say she has always had this style of laugh. It has been used in Minnie stories before and I definitely remember seeing it in many other strips too.
I remember when I was a kid, I could never understand what it was supposed to mean, as it didn't sound much like a 'laugh sound' to me. I suppose I was just used to the normal 'ha-ha's' and the like.

Fromthenorth, Baby-Face Finlayson often says "yuk-yuk". I guess that's who you're thinking of.

'Hyuk-yuk' was heard a lot in Hollywood cartoons of the 30s and 40s, to signify the humour eminating from a less-than-bright character: Disney's Goofy, Pegleg Pete, or from many of the supporting stooge characters in Warners and M-G-M cartoons of that time.

This device was also used well into the TV animation era---it's the sort of expression you would expect to hear from members of the Anthill Mob out of Wacky Races, as they observed some dubious intent.

You've hit the nail on the head there. That kind of laugh from Minnie certainly tells me (and hopefully lots of other readers) that's she's planning something devious.

Read out loud, it "sounds" more like laughter than "chortle" or "guffaw" ever did.

Haha, yeah, you've made a very good point there!
