British Marvel mags of the '70s - which one was best?

The Mighty World of Marvel, Spider-Man Comics Weekly, The Avengers, Dracula Lives, Planet of the Apes, The Super-Heroes, Savage Sword of Conan, Captain Britain, Rampage, The Complete Fantastic Four, etc. Which one was your favourite - and why?

(I loved the first 30-odd issues of MWOM, mainly because of the FF. SMCW was also great in its early days because of the inclusion of Thor. Also loved the Complete FF, because of the more recent tales, plus the classics.)

Of course the really good original material like Alan Moore's Captain Britain had to wait for the 1980s, but Dez Skinn's Hulk Weekly already featured some impressive home-grown strips in the late 1970s - notably Black Knight and Night Raven.

I would have said Hulk Comic, too-but it seems a bit of a cheat to count a title which didn't begin until March 1979 as a 70s title. I think I'd go for either MWOM or Super Spider-Man & Captain Britain. Though I did like most of the Marvel UK titles.

Really though, their golden era was the early eighties. The Daredevils, Marvel Super-Heroes, Rampage Magazine, Blockbuster, Future Tense, Star Heroes Pocket Book...

For me it was the Mighty World of Marvel the pure excitement of seeing this in the first place, featuring the early Spider-man, FF and Hulk (the Daredevil etc) I thought this book was on top form for nearly 2 years worth of issues showing Kirby's (etc) great work on FF, Trimpe and Severin's work on Hulk and Colan's amazing DD strips plus it (re) introduced the Avengers , Defenders and of course Spider-man who all eventually got their own books (directly or indirectly from their early appearances in MWOM) - For New material I would say Daredevils monthly magazine although the 80s has some good monthly;s (and a few ok weekly's and yeah I loved those pocket books) the 70's to me will always be the golder era (mostly as I was 12 - 18 then lol)

I actually preferred MWOM a bit later when it had started absorbing other titles, just because of the sheer variety and strangeness of it. Who in their right mind would publish a title featuring the Hulk, Daredevil, Dracula and Planet of the Apes? But it worked!

My first thought when I saw the combined title "Planet of the Apes and Dracula Lives" was "what a great idea and what a wasted opportunity!" Just switch the title order round, tweak it slightly, and you'd have the totally awesome "Dracula Lives on the Planet of the Apes."
